Remember to pass your camera to your subject after you have taken their image. You might just get to have your turn in front of the camera.

I had just taken some inner city images on Klotter Street in a neighborhood near downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. My ride was behind me, a 1967 Matchless G-80 CS, a huge 500cc single cylinder english thumper. While I was getting ready to put my Leica away, I turned to offer the camera to my last subject.

I prefocused the lens, set the exposure, which had already been done for him, then moved far enough away to be sure to have all of me in the image. Like always, my head ends up in the middle of the frame, the standard composition for nearly everyone, but as I had moved back enough, most of me was in the frame. One of the things you cannot correct is the timing of their exposure. While I most likely had a pleasant expression, by the time he took it, I might have been a little tired of holding it. I later cropped to make a more pleasing framing.

Taken with an M2 with a 50mm F2.8 Elmar, on Kodak Tri-X 135mm panchromatic film, in 1973. In front of my motorcycle is an old Cadillac, with an interesting rear fin style.

Back then I was a long hair hippie freak, with a motorcycle, but even then, with a helmet, something I still do on a motorcycle or a bicycle.
