Description Commission for of Thunderstick from the Bravestarr cartoon, leaning against a rock.

He's just chilling in the Badlands, doing his best attempt at flirting that I imagine a robot can. Especially for a robot with a speech impediment and a gun for an arm.

Thunderstick is known for being a jerk who heavily chastise and berates other men. Especially when they don't live up Β to the "manly man stereotype". It's like he's constantly on the prowl for men to castrate and humiliate publicly. (The episode "No Drums, No Trumpets" is a perfect example of this.)
However I could imagine his personality doing a full 180 when in the presence of a lady. Suddenly going from jerk-bot mode to sad attempt at flirting when a woman walks by.

It's all part of the Thunderstick charm. Great show. Seriously people, watch it.

I actually like Thunderstick this way and I would actually enjoy a " Hi, hi there pretty lady.." from him too. At least I know he would actually be trying to get on my good side.

So Bravestarr died an early and unresolved death huh? It sounded like it did going from one of turquoisephoenix's posts.
Perhaps you can enlighten me as to what happened.

I missed both this show and the original Ghostbusters. I was able to catch both of them on qubo but lost the signal when my digital converter box bit the dust. So, I'm waiting for the opportunity to nab the DVD's.

You and me both. I like a flirty Thunderstick.

Yeah, Bravestarr only lasted 1 season sadly. It was competing against TMNT and the Real Ghostbusters and Mattel effed up the toyline release schedule (because 80s cartoons and toys went hand in hand) which helped put the nail in the coffin. It was like everything was against Filmation and but them out of business.

Thank you for letting me know what happened, because I never knew just how many seasons Bravestarr got. I did get to watch on how Filmation went out of business for an old video on Youtube. *It might still be there.* It was a bit grieved by that, but at the same token we did some decent shows from them.

Here's that video I mentioned. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IauV2h…
I don't think that Bravestarr or Ghostbusters get mentioned much, but it does talk about the Filmation animation crew.

Thunderstick sounds like a very primitive euphemism for a shotgun XD

It is, actually. In the early settler days the Indian natives called the gun "thunder stick" because it was a stick that sounded like thunder. (It makes me think of that "this is my boomstick" scene from Evil Dead.)

Man, that'd be cool. I wish I had STARZ so I could see that new Ash vs Evil Dead thing they got.

I like that someone commissioned you to draw Bravestarr art. What a perfect little thing to happen.

It's nice to see Thunderstick after so long! You've really improved since your last Thunderstick drawings.

I guess this means I should see how well I can draw Scuzz...

Being paid to draw Bravestarr art is a dream come true. Especially Thunderstick related!

My gosh, why do I not watch this cartoon more often? Rewatching scenes for reference brought back so many wonderful memories...

Turquoisephoenix In reply to JenL [2015-07-28 21:50:48 +0000 UTC]

That cartoon really didn't deserve the fate that it got. If it was released a mere year or two earlier, it wouldn't have had to compete with both The Real Ghostbusters and TMNT in the same year and people probably would've remembered its existence better. Poor Thunderstick.

Also you forgot to mention that macho man Thunderstick's best friend is a rodent who smokes. But then again, it makes a TON of sense that the robot is best buddies with the outlaws' mechanic.

One of these days Im gonna snag one off Ebay

Hey, think you could do a pic of the actual toy style? It's quite different from the show model

JenL In reply to Dr-Syn [2015-07-28 21:47:58 +0000 UTC]

I really want the Bravestarr toys. Even if the characters look so different from the show. But man those things are hard to find and expensive.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dr-Syn In reply to JenL [2015-07-29 11:06:24 +0000 UTC]

I imagine the visual discrepancies were on Filmation's part. Artistic liscense to aid animation, or going off early design sketches that changed during production

Thunderstick though has the greatest amount of discrepancy from his toy design

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JenL In reply to Dr-Syn [2015-07-29 21:57:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think was early designs the toys used. Cause the older concept art for the show Thunderstick looks more like the toy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dr-Syn In reply to JenL [2015-07-30 04:46:55 +0000 UTC]

Of course it's also possible the art department decided to take some liberties.

Take the G1 Transformers for instance. All the toys came first. But Floro Dery at Sunbow reworked the designs for animation purposes.

So people who bitch about toys not being "Show accurate" are barking up the wrong tree
