Well, Orwell does explain that all the states are different in ideology only in name, what happens in Oceania happens with a different style in the other superstates.

So different methods same result basicly?

Is 1984 depressing to read, I'v read Orwell's Animal Farm and found it hard to read since its so bleak and depressing (and this is coming from someone who likes dystopian settings)

Yeah. Slightly different methods, same result.
To be honest... Calling 1984 depressing is rather an understatement. It's very chilling and dark, especially at the end. I'd recommend it, but what happens to the protagonist mentally is very much chilling. Not a happy book in the slightest. I'd day if you've read animal farm then you should be fine with 1984, but 1984 is much darker and dystopian. There's my two cents.

Good book, but... yeah. Depressing. Especially when he's being told that '2+2=5' by the guy who he thought was his friend. The only book that halfway through I stopped and read Winnie the Pooh to cheer myself up before carrying on.

Eurasia sounds nicer than Oceania...

Have you read the novel?

Yes, I have read it several times. It is mentioned that the ideologies of each super state are virtually the same but the propagandas of each depicts the ones used by the other states as being barbaric, immoral and tyrannous.(three characteristics that are, ironically, found heavily practised in each super state.) One of the dystopian things about 1984 is that there are no better alternatives to Oceania, the other states are just as bad.

At least in Eurasia, which is an analogue to USSR, you simply die after a lengthy period of torture. In Oceania you end up being so mentally deluded from The Room that you'd be completely insane.

Ah I loved that book, also when it was a dystopia, great map!

It's remarkably accurate to what's described in the book (or as much of it is reliable anyway). Though I"d switch the colors for Eurasia and Oceania.
