Description i'm a bit reluctant to submit "remix" images of existing works, but here goes anyway.

this is rendered with my 4-day-old new renderer; it's a spectral (wavelength-based) renderer that can cleanly handle lots of interesting physics, in this case the light source is a black body emitter (wiki: [link] ) at about 9500K. i look forward to doing much more with this renderer and letting others use it in the future (read: after my #$&*@% exams).

thanks i've yet to see how fully general ifs will fit+look in this system, will report soon as i have it worked out... it'll need a 3d editor to specify the xforms/variations and my opengl interface for that is quite primitive at the moment (and that's not even considering the problem of a realtime preview!).

thanks also for the watch, it's just a few seconds too late to catch my latest release tho

anyways, the image you're rendering will soon replace this one...

btw, i just had the most excellent idea for how to really leverage this program so everyone can use it. will code it up after i've had some sleep!

yup, getting settled now just need a job and hey presto...

btw, there are 3 computers rendering right now: *Aexion and i are rendering a poster resolution version (1.5:1 aspect ratio for da prints), and ~feckt is rendering a 1920x1600 version for uploading here. about 16ghz in total, maybe 10ghz on the poster job which will render for maybe a week (!!). since both have completely unbiased (no cap on depth) global illumination, they are taking extremely long...

the realism will get kicked up a notch before year's end: real skylight, integration with normal 3d geometry and lights, real materials (glass, metal, clay, ...) etc. too bad i have exams right now

Well I could do it on my new PC (2.8 mhz X2) with 2 gigs of ram...

Or I could take it to one of the labs at the University and try a multi system render

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lyc In reply to one-tough-one [2007-09-06 17:56:19 +0000 UTC]

i can email you an exe that will render it, if you can somehow make a big file (thumbsuck: something like 50mb after compression with 7-zip) available on the net afterwards. the reason is that i'll then combine the results with my 2 computers (2.5ghz x2, 2ghz core 2 duo laptop) and two friends' computers (2.4ghz and 2.8ghz core 2 duos), after a few days of rendering with all this power thrown at it, it should be possible to make a print-sized image!

if you were to run it on multiple computers, you'd need to combine those big files into one before sending to me, so i'll have to make a simple combiner program. i need to do this anyway to combine my two computers' results, but i've been putting it off to stare at the test render more i'll email that along presently, to motivate your participation in all this

you might have to tell me how to do it

my email is gattacaace@yahoo.com

I can probably do it this weekend (on the home box)

And I will ask at the power lab tomorrow

i've actually sent the exe to a friend on da (~vodu2040 ) with a 64bit quadcore machine, which will render it at 3840x2400 just earlier. i would really like to render a print-resolution version, but that will take much memory, probably requiring 64bit. i have 4gb of ddr2 memory already actually, but i can't use it until i upgrade my motherboard+cpu to quadcore whenever the new intel or amd ones come out (using 2gb atmo).

well I have 64 bit with 2 gigs of ram and a 2.8 x2 processor...

I render at 10,000 quality and 1400 x 1000 in about 20 minutes (unless there is an fx or more than 15 triangles)
