The one in NYC or in East Hampton? What's his studio now if in EH?
He was great, truly one of my fav painters still.

I met Elaine DeKooning, his wife and a great painter in her own right when she lectured to my painting class at the Art Institute in SF.
I asked her where's Bill, and she said he's back in the studio,
then she asked me if I had a light and I lit her cigarette.
Sadly she shouldn't have been smoking. She passed away not too long after and I heard, they never told Bill she had passed. He was already pretty mentally gone, though he lived another 8 years.

In EH. Pollack's old studio is here too. My friend owned E deK's old house/studio in EH!

Really?
Very cool.
Elaine was a neat lady. I bought one of her prints she did in San Francisco when she was out here that time she came by the Art Institute.

I have heard you can tour through Pollock's studio. A friend did it a couple years ago.
have to do that someday.

Yeah, it's cool. My mom worked for the local paper, so I was there when they were first uncovering the floor of that studio. I remember it, but I was a kid at the time and I didn't give a shit about Pollack. I love his stuff now.

that would have been wild. When i was studying painting Pollock was one of my heroes. He definitely inspired me and moved me onto other stuff.
But back when i was a kid, i did my share of splattering all Jackson.

Pollack is one of my faves. The work HAS to be seen in person to truly get how great it is. Most people who hate him haven't experienced his work first-hand.

If you are not familiar with it already, I would highly recommend "To a Violent Grave: An Oral Biography of Jackson Pollack."

It's really fantastic. Written by a local guy out here, but really it's just a bunch of people's stories quoted from interviews about him and their experiences with him. The author puts it all in order, so it has a normal narrative flow.

OK, pleasure chatting.

I read Potter's book you mention years ago, still have it and may just read again on your suggestion. I was a huge Pollack fan when i was studying painting in school.
I have somewhere a monster hard back table top art book with everything he did in it pretty much. I am a fan. The people that say they hate him are usually the same people i pay no attention to. They are far more than folk that do not understand, but more maybe people that are one dimensional. I sell my paintings and have exhibitions but you come across people that so want to see something in their little world. They look at an abstract painting and ask what is it. I know they want to see the little barn on the hill with the horse and the fence and the hillside. Others that dislike him are snobs and the others that dislike him do it because they are told to by professors or the times.
But so many did and do experience his work in wonder.
Maybe why a painting he sold for $500. in the 195os is going for $50 million. Treasures of museums and private collections.
I know what he did for me and when i see one of his great canvases in a museum I stare in wonder and smile.
NYC has some of his greats.
Here the SFMOMA has a couple, one of my fav of his earliest greatest paintings.
Guardians of the Secret, when he was still influenced by Picasso and others.
Here I looked for a decent example. This is a beauty, preceding his splatter days.

Still fun to see when i go over to the museum.
Great chat. Long live Jackson!

It's still an interesting city. You should someday if you never have been there. After years living there, i moved over the Bay to Oakland. A little more space and calm.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't sure if it looks too "crafty."

There are a lot of layers, as it was about three other paintings before I finally finished this.

If you look carefully, you can see the hulk hidden in there...
