Description Can I seriously enjoy a simple song without having to be reminded why non-Christians think I'm a crazy bigot?

Although I don't practice the Eastern forms of meditation (I did once, but that's another story), I like listening to binural beats and meditative sounds/music because it helps my mind focus and relax before I pray or read some Scripture. Heck, I may even listen to it just to unwind after a stressful day. But it's hard to do either one if I see some person submitting comments like, "JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY MEDITATION IS JUST THE DEVIL MESSING WITH YOU", or "GOD LOVES YOU SO DO THE RIGHT THING AND DON'T GO TO HELL." ....You know what I'm talking about. And it's not just meditative videos either, it can be ANY video. It could be about a cute cat and a random spammer goes nuts.

So please, my brothers and sisters in Christ, just keep this in mind: if you want others to hear the good news, then don't do it on places like youtube. That, and actually study the Bible and your beliefs. And maybe instead of hiding behind a computer, you actually go out and preach it with words AND actions (via volunteering at a pregnancy center, working in a soup kitchen, etc). There is nothing wrong with writing apologetics or spiritual pieces, but spewing nonsense in a comments section isn't going to lead anyone to Christ. It only annoys them and gives people a false impression of Christianity and it's followers.

So yeah. Take a chill pill. I was once a youngster who did the same thing and it didn't get me or anyone else anywhere. Don't fall for the same stupidity that I did.

God bless, ya'll.

*EDIT 18 MAY 2013* Someone mentioned that along with the attempts of conversion, there are also spam comments like mine that go along the lines of, "Oh ehm gee guyz, you make mah religion look bad stahp it!". Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Comments are only open because I don't expect people to go angry insane over the contents. But if you do write something stupid, immature, unrelated, etc, then I WILL block your comment. Think before you press enter, my friends!

Blimey Cow has done videos relating to this subject and Jordan Taylor - the main presenter - always makes it clear that you are never going to change someone's opinion by arguing in a comment section!

I keep seeing this even on some random TV live chat things (the kind that are on while any sane people are normally sleeping anyway). And I mean pretty much every time I open the TV when that stuff is on (can't often sleep. I'm perfectly sane, I promise.). And that stuff actually costs you some money... So not only do someone stay up all night, stalking those chat shows, but they also waste money on something that most people won't even see... Because, you know, they're sleeping...

This is sort of the reason I stopped commenting and responding on YouTube and also stop looking at the comments made back to me with the YouTube notification thingy... though it was mainly the "opposing side" that kept annoying me, and the fact that we have a very limited amount of space to write with.

Why are you trying to convert people in the first place? Stop it, it's annoying.

I completely agree. To me, those are just fruitless discussions where both parties basically say "I'm right because I'm right because I'm right," over and over and over again. They go nowhere and accomplish nothing. BUT at least it gives a good place for trolls of all kinds to congregate on the internet, right? they can argue with each other and leave the rest of us in peace as they just feed each other.

Yeah. I started to stop doing that. Often times, people come to me an intro with an insult, then I say a few words, and when I see its going nowhere (and that means nothing but more insults, rather than a meaningful talk), "K. Bye." Literally. I don't have the time, seriously. Be blessed everyone.

Don't do it at places like youtube?

Places like those are where Christians should be at battle. However, there IS a better way to get the message out. Every argument should be based on the word of God, and not just all caps of screaming words. lol We should definitely preach offline, too. It builds character and tons of experience.

Can I seriously enjoy a simple song without having to be reminded why non-Christians think I'm a crazy bigot?, that's pretty much what I also see in the comments in all kinds of music I like. From Christian to non-Christian bands. But that's YouTube, all you need is your FB/G-Mail account and the 'specialists' will gather.

Oh yeah, I see that a lot too. XD But hey, at least I'm not venting on youtube, right?

But since you bring that up, I'll mention it in the artist comments.

Actually, I was talking about those who suddenly go 'go die with ur God hurr durr', 'i dun believe in hell so i wont go there derp' and other kinds of bonkers when they see someone even mentioning something about God.

Ah! Okay. I've seen them too, and I know anti-God losers will do anything just to start a religious argument, troll or not.

Yes, I agree sister. It is better to physically show people God's love than cast it in cesspools like YouTube. Though I also reach out to seekers and non Christians through friendship both via FB, dA or personal.

It's quite fulfilling to be friendly instead of trolling or spamming

I have seen heaps of those comments and they annoy me because they are always totally unrelated to the video or other comments! (hence spamming I suppose) The first time I saw one I was so surprised that someone would even do that

Yeah. From my own personal experience, I usually assume they are tween/young teen kids who think they can change people's minds via youtube comments. Hence the ceaseless spamming...

I don't frequent YouTube, and I've never seen such a comment...but I'm sure that's annoying.

I must say, more people have convinced me of things by being nice to me and not using all caps, so yeah, there's truth to the "more flies with sugar" phrase. x3

PieWriter In reply to Nyaasu [2013-05-14 01:55:50 +0000 UTC]

LOL Yeah, actions do speak louder than words as the saying goes.

It's not always in caps, but the general attitude is the same. I mainly made it in all caps for dramatic effect and humor. XD

And usually you find them in non-Christian spiritual/religious stuff, like meditation music and what not. They sometimes appear out of no where on other videos too, but not usually.

Nyaasu In reply to PieWriter [2013-05-14 02:01:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know. xD I was kidding about the caps, too. xD That's just the internet version of shouting.

Ahh, I see. I haven't looked into that kinda stuff too much, although I did study a bit on binaural beats as an attempt to disprove a dumb urban legend I'd had quite enough of.

I should probably look into meditation - I have issues with anxiety. I bet it'd help. xD

I used to practice Eastern meditation, but realized that it conflicted with my spiritual beliefs. XD However, the breathing techniques are awesome! You should definitely look into it.
