Except plenty of animals that live in hot climates in our current era have plenty of integumental covering- is the cassowary overheating in its tropical forest environment with it's long black feathers over it's body? Do lions with iconic shaggy manes overheat in their Savannah environments? You can argue for less feathers, and maybe less feathers is more plausible, but without skin impressions you can't claim "ridiculous" or "completely inaccurate" reconstructions. Even with skin impressions one would have no idea if those impressions were even typical for the animal or merely the condition of the individual. And what of the environment for Utahraptor? Utahraptor was found in the Cedar Mountain formation, which at the time was dominated by floodplains, open woodlands, and even some evidence for bog-like environments with a short wet season- hardly desert. I think with phylogeny, anatomy, and environment all considered, the artist is completely justified in this reconstruction, maximum plausibility or not.
But more importantly, flipping out on someone's paleoart just because you disagree, even though it's no Jurassic Park reconstruction and well within the limits of plausibility, limits the artistic discourse of paleoart in general. I've seen paleoart of therapods wielding spears- accurate? Probably not. Interesting and thought provoking? Absolutely. A valuable entry to the discourse? Absolutely. So no need to attack this work so aggressively- don't like it? Make your own
