I can't even tell you how much it means to me that you like this.
Your Sidus is just so amazing and beautiful, and I knew he would translate (fast-forward) into a gorgeous stallion. I'm glad that you like his aged-up version as well. I had so so much fun working on him. It truly was a pleasure for me to draw him. And I'm so uber-happy you like the background too. It was worth the extra effort and references to get it right for him/you. And I know what you mean about wanting to jump into that setting with Sidus, can I come too?
All I wanted was for you to be happy with my drawing of him. Knowing you like it means everything to me. Take your time with my half, and no pressure - really.

Thank you!
I had no idea how to draw that aurora borealis anomaly pattern... and will definitely need to practice that a tad (a lot) more! I'm glad that you like it, and the shading and feathers (still trying to figure out how to shade my crazy full feathered horses).
And I mentioned to Strider (and will say again), it makes me so happy that you like that background! Ecstatically happy. I really struggle with backgrounds and had to heavily reference the landscape and colors/hues/lighting. I just found all my favorite Last Unicorn and Sleep Beauty movie forests, and then tried to make it work together. I spent way too long tring to fix it up... but in the end, it was totally worth all the effort and struggle. I think the tree has turned out to be one of my favorite pieces (now if only I can figure out how to do that again). and the cut out slope of grass was in a ref pic (can't take credit for creating that), and I really liked the effect, so decided I needed to incorporate that as well.
I love your praises... if I could even pretend that I knew it would turn into a "rich piece" with "unfussy composition" I would be so proud... but alas, I didn't really plan it. I got lucky and it sorta happened right for me this time. But I'll take what I can get. And am happy with how it turned out in the end.
I really hope Agaave likes it when she gets back online... since her's is the opinion that really matters I guess.

You're welcome
I do love it, and for something you went into not knowing how to draw, it came out pretty amazing
As for the background, even if you had to heavily reference, that's a good way to learn. That's how I've been progressing with my backgrounds lately, too. I definitely got the feel of Sleeping Beauty from it, so its good to know you took some inspiration from that (I've never really seen Last Unicorn) but it does come together beautifully. (would you believe, I had to interrupt replying here to go break up a fight in my back garden? Two cats decided to attack each other right next to the sunlounge window where I was sitting. Anyway, I'm back from that).
The slope of grass is something I've seen before in a few places, but what I meant was you did a good job of recreating it, and even just thinking to put it in, because you could easily have just kept a level meadow. I liked the uniqueness that it brings to the picture Haha; very rarely do I set out to create something specific and have it work, so even if you never went specifically for 'unfussy composition', sometimes it can just be a nice surprise when it happens for you XD.
And you're right. I'm sure she'll love it, but you'll have to see. I hope you like your half of the trade, too ^^

Thank you, again.
Hahaha, I do hope the cats were unscathed in their skirmish - at least you were kind enough to break it up before it could get "bad."
Referencing the background definitely gave me some structure and big time help with the forest. I will have to continue to do that for any of my drawings that I would like to have nice backgrounds, as it definitely made a difference. And it was very tempting for me to leave the slope out, but now that it's done, I am really happy I went ahead and put it in, as I do think it helped add some dimension to the meadow.
And it sounds like she likes it - which of coarse makes me delighted. And I can't wait to see what her half of the trade will be.

No problem ^^ It's deserved.
I think they were okay. One shot off up the garden - he sneaks in a lot - and the other must have scaled the fence as soon as the first ran, because I couldn't find him (I actually think one attacked the other, more than a mutual disagreement, so I was worried for the one that I didn't see run off, but he'd totally vanished, so he was well enough to get away). And even if I wasn't worried about their health, it was kind of hard to ignore; the hissing noises were insanely loud, not even a metre away from me. At first I thought the neighbours' dogs might have gotten one of them...
Definitely, I'd love to see what else you do with a referenced background And you're right, it does add dimension, as you said
I saw her comment, too - I definitely think she loves it, so nice job! ^^

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear you say that. I struggle with backgrounds, and spent ages on this one. I feel like I have so much to learn (colors, perspective, lighting, etc), and I tried to take my time with this one. It took forever (my sister might have heard some gripping for a day or two ). But it was worth it in the end.
I just adore `Agaave 's style of backgrounds and details that she draws... and traditionally nonetheless... and wanted to give her handsome boy something to be proud of.
I'm so glad that you think it looks good.
