Description Well, I did threaten to paint this earlier.
Here he is; the Lich King from Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, once fused with Arthas. I didn't even bother counting how many hours this took, though I believe it took the longest out of all my paintings here. It may have been something around 10 hours, but that's a guess. Dealing with all the different textures and shades of blue/green was quite interesting. I found the glacier/rock didn't look quite right untill I added texture using pencil over the paint. Oh, and the fur on the boots was quite tricky as well.
Overall, I'm happy with the result though ^^

Picture is cool, but I need an advice cause I'm new here. Which program is the best for painting fantasy art, for example art from World of Warcraft?

you need to draw your own picture if you cant draw practice by tracing ok

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarifus In reply to watermummy7 [2008-05-11 13:41:28 +0000 UTC]

This was more an exercise in brushwork and tone than original composition.

this is exactly the same as this [link] you traced it...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarifus In reply to GorillaMilkshake [2007-08-28 08:34:21 +0000 UTC]

Actually it wasn't a tracing...which is why it isn't exactly the same. However, it was done to a much finer degree than reference is sometimes used. I have described my methods for some of my pictures elsewhere - I had a window of the original picture open, and I had my picture open as a seperate window in a seperate program. Manually switching between the two windows, by looking carefully I can attempt to see the fine points of what differences there are between my picture and the original; obviously, as with any picture or scene I can then decide how close I really want to go into making mine like the original. I often choose to make differences, and to make the brushwork visible as I believe that is a part of painting. So, it's not a case of drawing directly onto a set image. Much of my life has been spent drawing and that experience is required - it is not a dissimilar process to drawing what you can see in front of you, as traditional artists, including myself, have often done. With this method, one still needs to understand the object well to replicate it effectively - something that direct tracing does not particularly require, I think.

GorillaMilkshake In reply to Sarifus [2007-08-28 12:35:41 +0000 UTC]

thats dumb. theres no point to it becuase its just a differnt kind of tracing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sarifus In reply to GorillaMilkshake [2007-08-28 16:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...evidently you haven't quite picked up on what I was saying...but never mind. If drawing/painting a version of an existing image or place is pointless, then that rules out a great deal of art, I'm afraid. When drawing, you look up at the subject, then back down to the paper. This was the closest way I found to replicate that while working on computer -shrugs-. I accept you may criticise this method, but if you're going to do that at least be more eloquent and understanding - saying 'that's dumb' is hardly the road to constructive criticism. Only reply if you have something productive to say, please.
