Description
First built in 1397, the "Golden Pavilion Temple" (officially known as Rakuon-ji, "Deer garden Temple") was burnt down in the 1950s, only to be rebuilt and rose again like a phoenix from its ashes. What a coincidence that the rooftop decoration is that of a phoenix. The "Golden Pavilion" was designated as a National Special Historic Site and a National Special Landscape, and it is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.Which means it's a must-stop location when you are visiting old Kyoto... I am sure Lin agrees with me.
P.S.: The paper I used this time is most likely too thin. It's hard to keep the roof supported this time. If I do this again, I might need to upgrade the paper. Please bear with me on this one!
It's the first time I did something so small! Artist's Note

2. Equipment: Cutting board, artisan cutting blade (#11), student's white glue, gluestick, Elmer's "Fix All" glue. Partially varnished with clear nail polish.
3. Paper: Local printer's standard photocopy paper, 30lbs / 81gsm. All things considered, it's a little too thin for this project.
4. Size: Height: 10cm / 3.9", width: 13cm / 5.1" , depth: 9.5cm / 3.7", base included.
5. Time: one long night.
6. Thanks to Thunderbolt Fantasy's Lin Setsu-A serving as my accidental tourist. He is about 10 cm / 3.9", not counting the icicle hairdress.

Miss Monochrome is my first nendoroid which is super cute. Melona of Queen's Blade... I wonder why Melona has two nendoroid versions, but no Nanael for the Queen's Blade series! Otherwise I must have bought it!

My mother took a long time to make up her mind. She has bad teeth for a long, long time because her mouth is too small. Her teeth are crowded and they hurt all the time. So she finally made the decision to wear the wires. She had them since Monday. It's been... a difficult week.
I am hoping some characters I love have Nendoroid form, too. I am really hoping that this one postimg.org/image/cw4b9h9rf/ and this one farm8.static.flickr.com/7777/2… will have Nendoroid figures. If they are made, I will pre-order them! I saw the one you linked to me, too. I think he'll look really nice in real life, too!

My mother didn't say anything when she saw my Eggplant girl. But I am sure she's not very happy about it, either! She always wants me to tell her that these characters are "good guys". Aah, well, that's OK. As long as you like it, it's OK. But I do agree with your mother, maybe you don't want your students to see it. Some people may get the wrong ideas and you don't want that. 對不起，遲回信了，最近精神不是很好，很焦慮而且恍惚。。。唉，很希望能夠活得輕鬆快樂一點。本來打算去拔一顆牙的，但是現在這種精神狀況，不緊急的話還是先別去了，天氣又突然變冷，身體也要適應。怕太多精神壓力我真的會黐綫的。。。

是呀, 這個角色也是很好玩的人物。 平常帥帥的, 但是有的時候又萌的一塌糊塗, 而且跟我那白髮的角色是同一個配音師配音的, 所以兩人就有點像兄弟那樣子。雖然是不同劇的人物, 有一次同台時還為了一個月餅大打出手哩! (笑~) 當然是最後合好了…

就是了。。。我的心理質素不太好，常常都是這樣。我經常努力分析生活上遇到的難題，可是煩惱總是不減，常常焦慮。佛家說假如有人身處不錯的客觀環境，可是那人卻享受不到身邊的周遭，常常有煩惱常常不安，那就是沒福報的現象。我覺得我就是這樣所以。。。當然希望多積福報之餘我會想，難道我從前做過很多錯事嗎？想想又不是啊，我有做過什麽大錯事呢？印象中沒有啊。。。起碼連謊話也不會說並不屑說的人又能做什麽大的錯事呢。於是我會想是不是前世做過什麽罪大滔天的事，以至今世這麽沒福報。唉。假如沒有福報，光有聰明是沒用的，只會徒添邪見，想太多只會走火入魔令思緒更紊亂而已。
就月餅罷了，爭什麽？吃少個會死嗎？（苦笑）不過這個黏土人確是可愛耶~！最後那個表情。。。一副好欺負的樣子，我也想敲它的頭，喵~！

身在福中, 人說是要知足。但是睜了眼看不到幸福的人也是真可憐啊。我媽媽今天給我看一個網路短片。 片中有一隻小狗在屋中沒有人的時候會站起來雙手 (爪?) 合十, 自動拜佛。拜完還會伏在人用的跪墊上稭首致敬。 拜完再重複; 主人偷錄牠就拜了三四次了。 媽認為那狗兒一定有慧根, 也許前生是人。我想, 這麼虔誠,怎麼這世變成狗呢? 難不成是來贖罪的? 想想, 也許不是我們這一生的過錯, 而是上生的罪惡, 這一世才受苦也不一定。 但是就連生為狗也可以為自己的來世努力, 所以生有幸能為人, 更要把握機會為此生與來生種福田呀, 不是嗎? 聰明如你, 不需我話癆吧?
他兩人都不是省油燈,所以是借月餅為藉口,以武會友。 最後也是一個餅切分了兩半給兩人吃來結局的。 (笑~)

我認為Amazon的東西是比eBay多。 eBay本身就像個跳蚤市場,東西品質不可靠,貨源不多, 有些時候還會被人惡意炒高價格。 不好意思,連我也吃了幾次虧。所以Amazon還是好一點。 但是Amazon有分地區性的。我在加拿大 Amazon找不到或貴了的東西, 美國的 Amazon卻有。 所以要比比價,也要看地盤才買的到好東西哦!

你說那麽有靈性的狗前世一定是人，可是今世怎麽這麽可憐淪落為狗。。。也是，可是有時我會想是人可憐還是動物可憐。。。如果從“人間是苦海，在世間是受苦”的觀點看，狗的一生就那麽十年，壽命短受的苦就少些；說人是萬物之靈，會思考很多東西，但想得多真的快樂嗎？動物不懂想太多，就簡簡單單（渾渾噩噩）過一生了，可能精神上沒那麽苦呢。我甚至覺得蜉蝣也是不錯的，短促的一生來不及生病就結束了，不用受太多各式各樣的苦，其實是不是一種幸福呢。。。
所以說狗可憐，我們作為人又何嘗不可憐。。。話説明年狗年了又到我的本命年（啊，怎麽“又”了。。。不是該說“終於”嗎？），終於走了三輪。感覺上好不容易。。。=.=; 一點“輕舟已過萬重山”的瀟灑感覺也沒有。。。我是爬過來的，尤其是近幾年。活了三十六年了啊，皇兄，有沒有被感動到？ 反正我是被自己感動了。。 （喂妳別恃老賣老）

我猜, 也許這個靈今生變狗是因為前世犯錯了, 才又長了這付樣子。 但是這人也是有福的, 變成狗身是被人呵護的家犬, 不是流浪街頭的野犬。 而且更難得的是它有足夠的靈知可以禮佛, 懺悔; 應該下輩子就不用再成狗身了吧? 其實妳也沒說錯,狗一生就十多年而已, 比人少的多了。 要生老病死也短許多。 但是沒有人說狗的一生可以抵人的一生啊! 我記得許久以前看到有靈通的人寫的因果報應的書, 有人受罰時是一條人命抵十條廿條動物的命。 有個故事中故意放高利貸害死人的人死去後被罰作十世猪, 十世狗, 再作個被先生又打又罵, 累死為一生的小媳婦來還債。 是了, 動物生命短些, 但是輪迴也快些; 生老病死的苦楚也多走幾次… 好像沒有比較好吧? 是啊，太快。。。（突然沉思下來）啊。。。怎麽好像不久前才十六。。。起碼那時候哪位同學欺負我（她不讓我在聖誕節的話劇演主角，實在甚是多事）、additional maths哪個課題難學（我記得是absolute value!!）、那時束什麽髮型（啊，喜歡雙馬尾啦，學校規定要把長髮束起來）、當時最喜歡的科目（是中文、化學和數學）、最怕的科目（體育。。。）、老師跟我說過什麽話令我很難忘（數學老師她說我“好靚咁番學，好乖咁放學”。。。哎呀，這樣讚我我不好意思。。 （喂妳夠）其實那時我很希望她會說“妳很聰明”（妄想，天天放學都煩著老師問數學，是聰明的話就不會天天這麽多問題啦，頂多只能說妳“很勤力”。。）都立刻記得啊~！（這又怎樣？

如果是狗精, 要報恩也不是以如此受人呵護的模樣出現吧? 據身邊養毛孩子的人說的第一手資料, 養狗比養個孩子還貴。狗兒看醫生可沒有健保, 看個醫生比人還貴, 拿藥也貴。有許多人養狗但是付不起狗的醫藥費, 只好讓牠在家生病受苦。 爪子要常常修, 毛也要剪, 那都不是自己在家做就可以的。是這種的生活方式, 這算那國的報恩? (苦笑~) 如果我說的話, 是妳把己他分的太明; 也把任何一個 "非己" 的生活都想的太美好了。 說句客觀的就是不切時際啦! 別人在外面生活比妳淒慘的多的是, 如果能在心中為這些不幸自圓其說的開脫, 那有時也要客觀的看看自己的生活好像也不壞啊!
我記得, 十六歲的時候已經幫家裡做事了。還記得在及膝的雪中走了近四十五分鐘, 只為了寄目錄給不知道會不會有回信的客人。 當時上學要坐校車。所以什麼課後活動都與我無緣。 坐不上校車就要自己走一個多小時的路回家, 什麼天氣都沒差。暑假剛好大忙, 沒上學就去工廠做工。學校中有人跟本沒發現我跟他同班。 所以學校的回憶有… 但是與人之間的回憶… 不多。 也沒什麼好留戀的了。 一直留在過去也不健康啊。
三八不可怕。 我訂了棟樓花, 可能要我四十了才能建好。我的目標是這幾年多存點錢,希望交屋時不用貸款。 我猜, 我三八的時候也一定很忙吧? (苦笑~)

我覺得要找神父辦告解的話，我的情況好像找神父驅魔更適合。。。可悲啊可悲，從前在國外有段時間跟辦告解和驅魔的神父一起學習（是學習意大利語，不是學習驅魔。。。=.=）的時候，我沒有精神困擾；可是現在有精神困擾卻找不到神父辦告解了。（很多年沒聯絡）記得從前那位神父說過一些關於驅魔的事，那時我將信將疑，心想真的有魔鬼的嗎？於是問：“爲什麽只聽說有惡魔附身需要驅魔，卻沒有天使附身的呢？”他不假思索地回答：“因爲只有惡魔才想操控人心，天使的方式是引導，不是操控。” 對於這個睿智而又合理的回答，我是信服了。他還說過驅魔的一個關鍵，是知道附身惡魔的名字，那就好辦。。。（那就能對症下藥嗎。。）
這叫“吃得鹹魚抵的渴”啊，又要馬兒好，又要馬兒不吃草咩？人們花一些錢養寵物，那筆錢只是他們開支的一部分；但是從寵物的角度看，特別是狗，主人就是牠的一切啊！養寵物那筆錢，是人們衡量過，覺得拿得出，才拿來養寵物的；不是用來等著開飯，否則他們可以選擇不養。但是寵物呢？從一開始就沒有選擇，被哪個主人買了就只能跟著哪個主人，無論是貧是富，會寵愛牠還是虐待牠，一切都是未知之數也沒得選擇。可是狗是無論跟了怎樣的主人，都會一生忠心不離不棄的，那不是一種報恩嗎？無條件一生忠心，這不是報恩是什麽？換轉是人，能辦得到嗎？而且主人花很多錢對他/她的狗好，是主人願意；假如主人拿不出那麽多錢養牠，狗還是會對主人忠心的。你不見有些乞丐還帶著狗啊，可是那些狗從來沒有離棄他們，也不會因爲別的人用食物引牠，就見異思遷跟了別的主人。這些美德，大多數人都沒有啊！我們還得向狗學習呢！
我嘛。。。我中五暑假也是幫人補習啦！那時努力讀了那麽多年書我也想玩一下的啊，可是我媽的朋友們無論如何也要我替她們的子女補習，說因爲我是名校出來又成績好。我也不是很想補習的啊，因爲那時我的學生們讀中三！我才中五，不吃力嗎？補數學和化學！壓力很大啊。。。還有一樣要命的，就是有位學生是讀中文化學的，可是我的學校是讀英文化學的，於是那些化學名詞。。。
是啊，有計劃是好的，沒有前面的願景，又怎麽走下去呢？

Hehehe, it's critiquing time
I hope you don't mind that I go straight to the suggestions, since this is my second comment on this piece xD. I see that another commenter already suggested using thicker paper for this piece, and I agree. Some parts of the roof look wavy, and in the leftmost photo, the second floor of the temple also looks tilted. Thicker paper would probably mediate both of those issues.
My second suggestion is a bit nit-picky, but since you have great skill in paper-cutting and attention to detail, I feel that you can pull this off. I feel that the pattern for the temple is a bit drab; I was surprised to see that the real thing has a strong black and gold color scheme. I think that you could make this miniature more realistic by cutting out the phoenix and railings (basically, showing the outline of the phoenix and the gaps in the railings to match the real-life temple). You can also bend the edges of the roof upwards to match the temple as well, like this crafter did. Lastly, if you do plan on making a miniature city, one suggestion I have is to spice up the piece by adding paper trees, fishes, rocks, etc. so that Rin has more to wreck *cough* so that it looks more like it's part of a scene

Yeah... I definitely agree with the thicker paper. I've been using thinner paper for convenience, but for architectural pieces, thicker paper would work much better. The downside, of course, is that it takes longer for thicker paper to shape and stick, so construction would be just a bit harder. You were absolutely right about the architectural deficiencies, too. I didn't notice them until the glue was all dried. I've been quite aggrieved over that!
Thanks for showing me what the other crafter did! I have a feeling that we have been using different patterns. But hey, I like your challenge. And I think it should be do-able, too. The next project I am working on is from the same series, so it also has some "short-cuts". Well, it's time to take the knife to the short-cuts!

I've actually expanded into paper-crafting while you were gone. I've built another building and a prop from Dr. Who last year. I don't do them often because I don't have anywhere to put them after they are done. But these are so small... so maybe I can try to do more of them in the future.
Thanks for the idea! These are a bit small for cardboard (the paper would be too thick to build something in this scale.) But I would definitely use thicker paper for larger projects. Otherwise they'll collapse under their own weight. But thanks a lot for the idea! I hope the next one will be even better!

You are absolutely right, though. The smaller models really save on the display space. I am planning on making another small model soon. So hopefully you'll like that one, too. That one also has nice small "roof tile" patterns. I really like it. So... I'm excited in putting it together!
