Description A couple of other bases I did for Niu , my Thousand Sons Dreadnought. Because using the lava base on a snow terrain board just looks plain weird. XD

Or as Hellbrutes used to be. Why did they have to get rid of the Chaos Dreadnoughts. Sure you could only really get the good ones from Forge World.

But still. Can you even get these anymore from there?

Too bad you can't get this model at Forgeworld anymore

Man, I know right! Makes me super glad that I got it when I did, it's such a lovely model.

What paints did you use on this model, like the shades of blue and gold etc

skycat In reply to Shrodin [2013-09-10 03:07:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, let's see if I can remember... XD Some of the paints are old ones that Citadel no longer makes, or have changed the name of, or have changed the actual colour a bit, but I'll do my best.

The blue was done with Midnight Blue, Regal Blue, Enchanted Blue (maybe, I can't remember if I used this or not), Ice Blue, and white.Β

The gold was done with a really old version of Shining Gold, then given a Gryphonne Sepia wash and highlighted with Mithril Silver.Β

The red gems were done with Scab Red, Red Gore, Blood Red, Blazing Orange, and maybe a touch of yellow, I really don't remember. XD;

Green gems were... um. Dark Angels Green, Snot Green, and Scorpion Green, I think... some kind of dark, medium and light green, anyway.Β

The metal parts were undercoated black, then Boltgun Metal, washed with a black wash, and highlighted with Mithril Silver.

The cloth tabard was just painted white and given a blue wash, then retouched with white again. The plasma coils were painted Ice Blue, then White, given a blue wash as well, retouched with more white, then given a gloss hardcoat. The gems were also gloss hardcoated as well.

I think that's it! Hope that helps!

No worries, happy to help! I've always preferred the darker colour scheme for the Sons as well, heh. Feel free to ask if you've got any more questions!

damn, this and your sorceror/lord absolutely rock. If I could paint half as well as this, I think I would have a thousand son army as well!

I wonder if being incarcerated in a dreadnought torments the former THousand Son's spirit as Tzeentch's machinations torture it with visions of the end of everything.

I'm not sure! I figure Thousand Sons dreadnoughts are mostly all psykers to start with, so they wouldn't be the whole 'dust-in-armour' Rubricae thing. Still, that probably wouldn't stop Tzeentch from messing with their heads if he could, especially while they're 'sleeping'.

Might explain the 'crazed' rule for dreads, heh.

A magnificent Dreadnought! Makes me pondering the idea of buying one myself. The Thousand Sons Dreadnought on the Forgeworld site definitely didn't look that great The snow base looks awesome as well, well done!

Hehe, thank you! I think the Forgeworld Dreadnoughts are pretty damn nifty, they have so much detail! Definitely makes it easier to get 'em to stand out on the field.

Hehe, thanks! I had fun doing the different bases - it's nice to have options depending on what sort of field I'm playing on.

how did u make the bases interchangeable?

I haven't glued him down. At the moment I just use blu-tak to stick him on to whichever base I want when I'm playing. I plan on magnetising him and the bases at some point though.
