Description
So, the last drawing was so damn colorful, I wanted to draw something just black&white this time. A5 Indian ink and cross-hatching. Just like always.So this one is the first part of the "Can you still remember me" series, that I'm starting right now. But there's probably going to be just two parts. So one down, one to go. In fact, I already have another idea for new series of drawings, probably going to make that happen after I have finished this one.
Anyway, I'm not really into this dragon stuff. I mean those big mean ones. But Spike is still one of my favorite characters so I gave it a shot. It always makes me wonder, you know, now Spike is just a baby, but in the time when he's fully grown up, he might be totally alone. Or I mean that I've always imagined that dragons are in a way immortal. So Spike's gonna continue growing up, and watching all his friends getting older and finally passing away, until there's no-one he actually knows. And what is he going to do then? I can imagine him leaving into solitude, to the other side of the mountains. Alone.

Love it. The solitary emotion is captured very well in this one. Immortality sucks. Like most mortals, your born, you live, you feel, you love, but unlike mortals, you don't die. The mortals you befriended and loved whither and fade all around you

I imagine he would become a protector of canterlot and ponyville, without Twi or the elements of harmony spike and the princesses are the only real protection these ponies have. But i do see your point about spike leaving into solitude, i guess this would make him a silent protector

Personally i think he will eventually get over and find a nice dragon lady for himself.
I don't believe in this RarityXSpike ship for the sole reason: he's a baby dragon and she's an adult (or at least old enough) pony. Besides, it's cute as a childhood crash and all but i don't like certain undertones of it. Also imho he will have to learn how to be a dragon and may even teach other dragons something good. Cultural revolution for dragons ? Why not?

Yeah, and think of all he has learned from Twilight, even if unknowingly or reluctantly, and how that my benefit him and other odd dragons he comes across. Long life can give you perspective, and an endless one might bring you solitude. Strange is the way a human minds thinks, but what of a dragon?

While I can see Spike becoming completely alone, I believe he may still be able to stay in contact with the three Princesses - as it is assumed that the alicorns will also live indefinitely.

Or the Princesses already had him working as a diplomat between Equestria and any wild dragons that come into the area, like that one the mane 6 had to shoo away. Presumably, not all such instances of dragons crossing the border would have a Fluttershy there to stare them into submission when they get angry and try to hurt someone. Better to have a long-term specialized diplomat to deal with them more safely, like another dragon. And honestly, Celestia and Luna seem like they'd be good friends - Celestia probably raised Spike until Twilight was old enough to take care of him, after all, so they likely already have some sort of familial relationship with each other. Plus there's his younger friends, like the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and whatever other friends he'd inevitably make over time. Nobody ever stops making friends, especially not in Equestria.

My guess on this is that sentient immortal (or very long-lived) creatures probably would have some differences in their psychological makeup that would enable them to keep functioning, otherwise the sheer weight of the memories would render them completely insane or catatonic eventually. They'd move on, never forgetting but not getting weighed down by it either. Also, as some commenters here have already pointed out, Spike will always have Peewee and the princesses.

I am happy to say that at the very least Spike will have company even if he outlives his beloved pony friends. He has a pet phoenix now remember, Peewee. And I'm pretty sure Old age is not a concern for a creature that constantly renews itself via immolation. Not to mention he'll probably still be in contact with the princesses, he does have a direct mail line to at least Celestia. Even if he was a sleep for a hundred years I think they'd remember him.

While it's heartbreaking to think that Spike will end up alone as he reaches adulthood, I like the idea of him being friends with the Princesses and acting as a friend and a guardian to any descendants Twilight Sparkle might have.
