Description I got inspired after reading the Destroyermen series of books. Think Saving-Private-Ryan-meets-Jurassic-World-meets Avatar. After being blown away by the story I had to do something about it so I decided to do a bit of world building and character conceptual art. This one I based on the first book in the series, Into The Storm. I’m actually hoping that the characters can be easily recognized by those of you familiar with the series.

**Updated: This is an revised version that replaces the teak deck with steel, painted in Measure 13 Haze Gray (5-H) as per the author. Also cleaned up background a bit and cropped it closer. (Original: sta.sh/0tb9xw038fj ) April 15, 2018.**

*All characters and settings inspired by the Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson.

It probably does, since it's the major feature in the right side of the pic, but even so I'm always seeing new detail in your art work.Β  Even the poor bucket is beat at hell!Β  Maybe Earl smacked some Grik trying to get an Earl sandwich with it.Β  Chief Gray is definitely not happy with the state of his deck, & poor Chack knows what's coming next!
Bye the way, thanks for the mention below.Β  I appreciate it!

Your welcome! I checked your link once more to compare it with what I recently read in "US Flush Deck Destroyers in action" book and I see where Taylor found his inspiration: USS Noa (DD-343) was modified in 1937 to carry a Curtiss Seagull floatplane on a catapult in exactly the same spot Walker carries her Nancy. Even the crane is the same. BTW, in the comments section you said you've been in the hospital. All fixed up for good, I hope?

I don't know which link you used, but looked up the USS Noa.Β  It's pretty cool.Β  The only thing they didn't have on her was the catapult.
I'm alive.Β  I was in the hospital last week, a kidney stone had essentially shut down one kidney & the other wasn't doing too well.Β  Several grossly intrusive surgeries & considerable pain later & I'm on the mend.Β  Still have some stones, but the DRs are letting me rest & regain some strength.Β  I'm as weak a day old kitten right now.Β  Thanks for your concern.

Sweet!Β  I just noticed the tompion in the 4"/50, most would have left the barrel open, but it was only ever out for cleaning, gun drill or fighting.Β  I pick up new detail every time I look.

Thanks! The tampion was already on the original pic so I'm wondering if the tighter cropping makes it more noticeable...

Funny... I just started reading the first Destroyermen book a few days ago (I'm about three quarters through) when I decided to search DA for it...

And I found this.

Great art, though I'm guessing that I probably shouldn't be looking at it too much, due to spoilers...

Thanks! Look all you want, rest assured this pic does not give away any spoilers. There's a couple more in my gallery but at worst, they may look a bit confusing if you haven't read at least the first 3 or 4 books but still no spoilers.

Yikes! No wooden deck?!? Should I give in to the urge to make a version with metal plate or linoleum deck? When I was preparing for my D-Men illustrations I tried to gather as much reference material as possible from both author descriptions and internet. One frustrating thing about researching Wickes class destroyers was the overwhelming variations on the theme: different pilot houses, superstructure details and such so I just picked and chose what made sense to me. Thanks for reaching out to Anderson on my behalf, I'm so thrilled he liked it! Do you think he'd be open with me reaching out to him as a reference source in the future? I'll head over to your links shortly.
