Description HDR treatment of Tacking point Lighthouse.... with the addition of the seat in the composition.
Compare it with Smooth Sailing
[link]
which is not HDR and tell me your thoughts.

PS the sensor dust spot in the cloud will be edited tomorrow.. how could I miss that eyesore?

Colors definitly better here, but I think you are either too close or too far - I like the shots where the lighthouse is smaller better!

You have the eye of a great painter. What more can be said about this that hasn't already been said?

I like this version the best because of the clear dominance of the lighthouse and chair, and also because of the richness and variation of the tones. The soft ocean of sky supports the foreground well.

Great stuff.

Well I don't know if I agree with everyone else.

I do like both pictures, but, is this one worth all the extra work, when you can get this [link] result so simply in PS.

Is there a reason why you asked

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sun-Seeker In reply to AdamsWife [2007-05-19 20:29:22 +0000 UTC]

well since I can go two or three ways on a photo ( and its not that much extra work, he said as one who loves to fiddle ) its nice to get comparative view from the public so the NEXT time I enter the heritage photographic awards [link] my $100 worth of 4 glossy photos don't gets sent back with a rejection letter!!!!

I cannot believe they would reject the work of my favourite landscape artist. All I can say is, 'I have better taste than the judges'

I like this one so much more then Smooth Sailing. Great composition on this one. HDR lightning! It's a great shot! I'll add this as a Favorite!

pheelfresh [2007-05-17 21:49:43 +0000 UTC]

Good one indeed. This is definately a good HDR. Excellent light as well.

The only "bad" thing is the dust spot in the middle left of the photo. Should be easily cloned/healed out. Easy to miss

Sun-Seeker In reply to pheelfresh [2007-05-18 05:51:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanx.. easy to miss.. when that sensor spot was pointed out it was like a zit on my nose.... hard to miss... I just posted an edit of the other shot Smooth Sailing Too.. now see if the HDR is the better of the two![link]

pheelfresh In reply to Sun-Seeker [2007-05-18 07:18:59 +0000 UTC]

Thats really hard to decide. I like them both very much. With such great light it really doesn't matter either. If I had to choose, I would pick the HDR simply because I think the composition works better.

pens-n-feathers [2007-05-17 21:35:36 +0000 UTC]

The sky is more dramatic somehow in the other one but all in all I prefer this one...I like the more 'complete' composition and the fact that the grass is lighter. Both photos are great though - very hard to choose!

another edit of the dull one.... now which?

pens-n-feathers In reply to Sun-Seeker [2007-05-18 21:59:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah!!!! Now this one I like! The shadows in the grass in the foreground really add to the balance and the clouds look great. The brightness of the white walls and the rich tones of the 'rust' are just excellent - this has to be the winner...unless you have somthing else up your sleeve

AndreasResch [2007-05-17 21:34:17 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful image ... I like this one more as it has more color in parts that are paler in the other version ... especially that orange part on the tower is key ... besides I like the framing better here ...

Sun-Seeker In reply to AndreasResch [2007-05-18 05:53:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanx for the comment mate and now I'm going to show you the other foto redone from scratch.... brighter better exposed thru software and not as dull

what do you think?

thephotoshot [2007-05-17 18:58:25 +0000 UTC]

This one's looks better than the other.
It's really hard do make an HDR appear "normal", but you successfully managed to do this.
Great shot.

Now have a look at the normal shot with better exposure and with my pants pulled up high..... just shows what 50 sets of eyes can do to my postproduction.

AgiVega [2007-05-17 13:44:47 +0000 UTC]

The composition and the sky are probably better on the other one, but the building is lighter on this one, and I like it lighter.
