Description Name: Berlioz

Gender: Male

Age/Era: 27, Early 90s

Height: 6'1" / 186cm

Tree: Great Sequoia

Apartment: Winter

Personality:

Loyal | Earnest | Hard-working | Resolute | Sarcastic | Aloof | Blunt | Stubborn | Easily Flustered

Berlioz is, above all else, a dedicated and honest man. Cutting corners isn't his style, and everything he puts his mind to, he tries his best to give his all. But he equally dislikes wasting effort, and as such always takes his time to think any decisions through. Once he's made up his mind, he's an immovable rock that will never change it's stance. In the same vein, once his friendship is won, it's a friendship for life. His barriers are tall and he is at first wary of others, but this is less from a desire to be alone so much as a desire for people to prove to him that he should invest his faith in them. With his treasured few friends, he is gentle and eager to please.

But first impressions are admittedly not in his favor-- he comes off as rather disagreeable to most, as he is a man of few words. When something can be left unsaid, he will leave it just so. His tendency not to mince words can make him either aggravating to (attempt to) hold a conversation with, or unapologetically blunt without realizing it. He calls it like he sees it, but rarely has truly malicious intentions. As a result, when Berlioz realizes he's stepped on another's toes, he can become terribly embarrassed. Naturally, this only causes him to clam up more-- and oftentimes aggravates an already unsalvagable interaction.

Introduce yourself!
"... My name? Berlioz."

Reason of death
Born to a well-off family that specialized in weapons production, Berlioz was a sheltered youth who wanted for nothing save the attention of the people around him. Busy with developing their business, his parents left him under the care of ever rotating help staff, and without any foundations of friendship or attachments, grew into an introverted and self-doubting young man who struggled to assert himself. It was this fatal flaw that dramatically changed the direction of his life in a way that he would regret forever.

Though Berlioz aspired to be a doctor, at the overwhelming pressure of his peers and parents, he dropped out of medical school early on to join the fight in an increasingly desperate war. Joining the militia, even if only on the surface, was a PR move their family couldn't afford to miss out on-- and being neither an excellent businessman nor an outstanding student, he was the best candidate amongst his siblings to be the scapegoat. His parents' influence assured that he was kept away from the most dangerous areas-- spending most of his time on the base tending to the artillery his parents' company had produced. Out of necessity, he grew a spine and, to an extent learned to stand his ground-- but was always privately bitter to have been pushed on a path that took lives rather than saved them.

He grew increasingly cynical over the course of the war, as tragedy after tragedy whittled away at his resolve-- and became irreparably miserable when the untimely death of his only companion from childhood came to pass at the hands of a former colleague. He eventually died in a carpet bombing of the city his unit was stationed in.

Why that specific tree?
The great sequoia has an incredibly long lifespan-- it represents Berlioz's desire to live a slow, peaceful, and long life, as opposed to the turbulent and short one he did.
