(Based on the genies in Aladdin) Genies are immortal creatures that reside in lamps. Or rather, the exiled ones do. Their souls are bound to golden lamps and they are unable to travel far from them. When found, they grant their masters three wishes before their 'contract' is nulled and they no longer need to follow their master.
In the event that the lamp is stolen or given away before the completion of three wishes, the genie will obey its new master. If the lamp is returned to the master with an incomplete contract, the wishes remaining still hold though no extras are given. While most follow certain rules when it comes to the types of wishes allowed, some make their own rules.
After a certain number of masters have been granted their wishes, the binding holding the genie to the lamp is broken and they are allowed to return home at last. However, this usually takes a long time because most genies are found in hard-to-access areas, making the occasional lost traveller even more rare.

Natural weapons: His magic.

Trained weapons: His chains. They don't appear in his glamour, but they will if he needs them. The chains can extend as far as his arms can stretch and can shorten until they disappear. Of course, at that point, his cuffs would be connected. He uses them as a way to strangle people. Painful? Very.

Weakness:
Stolen Lamp: If someone takes his lamp, any attacks directed at that person will either miss, or backfire and hit Khalid instead. Simply put, taking his lamp is the best way to protect yourself from him because he can't even steal it back from you. Not only that, but he will be forced to obey three wishes that you have. Of course, whether or not he kills you right after is to be considered.

Non-physical attacks: His ability to turn into smoke is useless against non-physical attacks. Punches and kicks simply pass through him but something like a fireball will hurt him. Any gaseous attack, basically. Wind is especially dangerous for him.

Candy: For a 1300-year-old, he's a sucker for anything sweet......

Major Skills:
Smoke-shifting: This ability allows him to move as a lavender cloud... . He can still use all his senses, but they are very much more dulled. It's disorienting to turn back into a solid form, but he's used to it and can recover in half a second.

Imagineering: Thanks to inherent genie powers (which sounded cooler in my head), he can create things out of thin air. However, for him to Imagineer, he requires the belief of at least two creatures through the use of his illusions. He creates the image that he wants to bring to reality and makes himself believe it is real. Anyone who believe the illusion is real (whether intentional or not) will fulfil the requirements and the object will come into reality. This is why he can't Imagineer on his own. While able to do from any range, he cannot bring a living creature to life for more than a minute.

Illusions: He can create illusions that affect all senses. However, they cannot physically harm anyone. This skill is one that he has forced himself to master in order to scare off people that attempt to steal his lamp. Though used to deter people, he also uses it for his Imagineering. His illusions are powerful and hard to overcome, especially when he's concentrating on only one person. The larger the group of people, the harder it is for him to keep an illusion running, but he can create illusions that will be seen by up to twenty people without great difficulty. It requires concentration, and certain things may change all of a sudden, but he can hold the illusion in place fairly well.

Minor Skills:
Magic circles: He can use basic elemental circles, but they aren't his speciality nor is he very interested in them. The circles can also bind people in place or make mute them, but all the spells are temporary and easy to undo if you know the basics.

Levitation: He's extremely good at levitating and hardly ever walks on the floor. He prefers to take the less crowded path: the ceiling. Even though he looks like he's walking, he's really just planting his feet against the ceiling and pretending. He can levitate anything he wants, but there must be physical contact between the object and himself. Whenever he levitates, he tends to look like he's floating underwater.

Languages: Throughout his travels, he's learned almost every language under the sun. While he's not fluent in all of them, he knows enough to speak and understand most. He can't read quite a number though.

Personality:
A good actor: He likes acting and finds the idea of hiding emotions amusing. As such, he has trained himself to show only what he wants people to see in him. He hardly ever shows seriousness and keeps a constant smile on his face.

Playful: He loves to joke around and doesn't mind people talking during his class, as long as they don't annoy those who are trying to study. If you succeed on playing a prank on him, he'll likely laugh along..... And plan his own prank in revenge.

Random: He comes up with the strangest of punishments in class. Such punishments include wearing a ceramic teapot on your head for a week straight. Hot tea is optional. His classes also seem to be rather spontaneous and made up on the spot.

Patient: He's not the most patient character, but he has a lot of patience when it comes to teaching. He doesn't mind mistakes, as long as you don't repeat them more than twice.

Loves to help: It doesn't matter whether or not it's related to his class, he enjoys helping students. He doesn't mind teaching things outside his subject, as long as he knows the requested topic enough to do so.

Flirt: While he likes both men and women, he tends to flirt only with girls. It's all unintentional though. He's not looking for a relationship but somehow tends to just blab out compliments. The only good thing that comes out of it is that any compliments he makes are sincere.

Merciless: If you successfully piss him off to the point he drops the act, may all the gods have mercy on you. Even if he is kicked out in the process, he will not hesitate to make your school life, and possibly your entire life, miserable.

Pessimist: Despite his optimistic attitude and behaviour, his true thoughts are... negative, to say the least.

History:
Khalid grew up, quite obviously, in a family of genies, a proud father, a kind mother, and an identical twin brother. His family was one of the many that sought to overthrow their Ruler. Eventually, when he was a hundred and twenty, he was given the title of Leader. A few years after that, he led the rebels in an attack. They were successful, but his parents were killed during the fight. Enraged, he killed many of the captives, including the Ruler. His fellow rebels restrained him and, when his brother (who had been elected leader in Khalid's moments of pure insanity) deemed him to unstable, banished him.

For the first few hundred years, Khalid remained hidden in the lamp he was bound to, trying and failing to escape the binding that kept him on Earth. He wanted to go home. Eventually though, he gave up and turned his efforts to making sure he would never be found. He knew that, to return home, he would have to obey multiple humans and grant their wishes until his binding broke. He knew not of how many wishes that would take, nor did he care. He was far too proud a genie to do that. Instead, he wrapped himself in solitude, casting illusions around himself and his immediate area to avoid being found.

Unfortunately, centuries led to boredom and he shed his illusions, instead only covering himself in them and, making sure his lamp was safely hidden on his person, setting out for the outside world. He spent a long while simply travelling. It was impossible for him to stay in any place for one night and was constantly on the move. He learnt many things, from cultures to languages to history. He spent quite a while in Arabia, taking quite a liking to the place.

It was impossible to never be discovered. While in Cairo, Egypt, his lamp was stolen by a pickpocket and as a result, was forced to grant his first three wishes. What happened next would haunt Khalid for the rest of his never-ending life. Like how he had lost to his rage after the rebellion, he slaughtered the pickpocket, dismembering him and casting the parts out into the street for the world to see.
He disappeared after that.

He spent the next few years in hiding. Forcing himself to be a natural actor so as to never lose himself in anger again. It was by surprise that one day, a woman with the head and wings of an owl appeared before him and offered him a job at a school. A school for monsters? Was he good enough? He found the idea intriguing and, after a bit of questioning, agreed to become the Ancient Languages teacher.

Once it reaches its floor, it condenses on a spot on the ceiling, forming the shape of a crouching man. Then, the smoke solidifies into an actual person, one with hair the exact same colour as the smoke.* Hmmm sorry~ *the genie apologizes only half-heartedly to the stunned student staring at him, more amused than actually regretful. Still on the ceiling, he walks casually along the corridor, seeing no point in joining those on the floor.*

The night was silent around him, not even a breath of wind to stir the treetops an inch below his feet. Like the darkness he enjoyed so much, Khalid was silent, though not quite, for every slight movement made the chains connecting his wrists rattle softly. He sighed softly, smiling. Absently, he wondered what sort of impression he gave off. He had the feeling it was the impression of someone who loved life and was content with the way everything was. A glance to the gold around his wrists made him chuckle.
"How false..." he whispered to the moon, bright and full in the sky.
The moon gave no reply and Khalid did not wait for one.

Instead, he only let his form dissolve into that of smoke, disappearing into the forest.

While they come in handy at times (like when he's strangling people), he thinks they're a mark of shame and hates them. He has a habit of pulling on them when agitated or nervous.
The Headmistress had originally requested that he allow her to keep his lamp for safety reasons but he rejected the request without hesitation.
Every morning, he casts a binding spell on the base of his lamp and sticks it on his head. Unless you know what spell he used, you can't remove the lamp. Only he can do it. That's why the lamp doesn't fall off. On the other hand, if you pull on it while he's floating around, not only will he get mad at you for touching it, but he'll likely get pulled along with the lamp as well.
The fastest way to get him to forgive you if to give him candy.
The tattoo on the back of his hand is a sign that he's a full-fledged genie. The stars around his arm mark his acceptance into the rebels. The one over his eye marks him as their leader.
He has a lot of jewellery. What he wears is only around half of them. His room has trinkets all over the floor. He doesn't really care if you take them, as long as you don't do it too often. The jewellery and gold were stolen from the man who managed to steal his lamp.
Though he has not spoken to his brother for hundreds of years, he hates and loves him dearly at the same time. He refuses to talk about his past, thinking it is something to be learned from, but not spoken of.
He's not ticklish on the sides or feet, but the insides of his arms are sensitive for some reason, as are his neck, collarbone and ears.
When he feels the extreme ends of emotions, one of two things will happen. Either he will more or less explode into lavender smoke, or his lamp will start spouting fire.
