Description Vintage postcard, circa 1960s
Travel souvenir

Cunard's Sylvania was the last liner the company built specifically for transatlantic crossings. The ship was later heavily rebuilt as a cruise ship, and sailed under the names SS FairwindSS Sitmar FairwindSS Dawn Princess and SS Albatros before being scrapped in 2004. She was renamed SS Genoa for her last voyage.

She and her three Saxonia class sister ships reflected the economics and travel patterns of the post-war world—they were not built exclusively as passenger liners, but also included cargo-carrying facilities. Their passenger accommodation were divided into just two classes, first and tourist, with the tourist class occupying the majority of the ship.

Did you notice her unusually shaped funnel with a round top?

nice, but we don't have postcard shows around here anymore, haven't been to a show in years sadly , so the only way i can get postcards now is off ebay. and now with my financial situation, ill probably have to stop that too, so I dunno if i'll be able to add postcards anymore to my galleries.

There will always be ways to find cards. I've had dry spells that lasted months and years. Don't worry about it, ebay is plenty great for collecting! It saves a lot of traveling around, too.
The cards I picked up on Saturday were RMS Majestic and Olympic. This one booth had so many in this one album, I was all aflutter flipping through it I wanted ALL of it!

As Forrest Gump says, "That's ma boat." Sylvania is my favorite ever ever ever. I would do anything to get a set of plans for her.
