The arm on Hsiao flag reminds me of the Berzerk clans logo from Urban Rivals.

Cool flags. I had similar thoughts about a future United Space of America having a very decentralized Federal government, although I never thought of having the planetary flags being variants of the US flag. Is it hard to make these kinds of flags because I was thinking of using Microsoft Paint to start solidifying my concepts of planetary flags in a story I'm making up.

I imagine real colonies would be like this where diverse ideological groups would found their own civilizations

Look for "Pivotal Moments," and think about how they could have gone the other way. Historical parallels also help as a guide for future history.

Your second Renaissance story is really interesting, and I'm going to keep looking out for it. I was wondering what plans you have for this story, if you're willing to share. Let me say too that Kimura is one of the most interesting flags I've ever seen, real or fictional. I also love Nehru.
I was reading your description and noticed that you had combined the information about Hsiao and Torres.

Thanks, but I'll be honest Kimura and Nehru are some of my least favorite flags that I've done. I'm still polishing the story on future.wikia, and right now I'm really just trying to make the scenario a little more practical.

Well, this is all part of my Second Renaissance TL, in which Europe is unified under a European Federal Union; which Russia joined after being economically devastated by a civil war that cut them off from Siberia thanks to the Ural Sea (if you recall my global warming map). As such Russia's culture became diluted with the influx of their new fellow Europeans.

Really good flags and interesting histories. I take it that America has come to dominate the majority of Earth, since though several worlds were colonized by Asians or European, they're under American control.

Nope, the US is one of several continental superpowers, only a few worlds have been exclusively colonized by one nation or another; where in most cases the US shares a planet with the nation that originally discovered it, that is why not all the names are anglicized.

Ah, makes sense. So the flags are just territories on the planets rather than entire celestial bodies, I understand it.

I recently resolved the naming and ultimately legal dilemma. You see the idea is that on each planet with at least one US State there is a Commonwealth, which is a level of government between the states and the federal government. This allows the Federal level to move more nimbly to manage the broader issues of the Commonwealths, while two planets that might have nothing in common can manage their individual issues independently.

Its just supposed to be a Danish surname, no connection to 90s schlock was intended.
