Description First and foremost I would like to thank for inspiring me to pursue this concept.

The basic concept is that if/when American begins to colonize other worlds, administering them requires a greater decentralization of the federal government on Earth, forming a Four Tier Republic:

1) Federal
2) Planetary (Commonwealth)
3) State
4) Local

Thus we have the next fifteen flags of America's 27 Planet strong Republic, the Territories of the Outer Planets, i.e, planets more than 20 LY from Earth.

*Griffin is a planet very similar to Earth, and was first founed by a Franco-German Europeans. Most of the Americans living on it today origionaly came from the North West and New England

*Kimura was first founded by the Japanese as the majority of its landmasses are in a climate zone similar to that of the home islands. Most American settlers were from the West Coast.

*Meath was founded by Irish Europeans seeking to rebulid their pagan heritage. Most Americans shared the desire to experiment with Gaelic traditions and followed suit.

*Reth was founded by a group of Austrain-Euorpeans shortly after Griffin was established, but it has been defined as the homeworld of a group of "Confederate Americans." Home to some of the last of the Baptists from the Old South, Reth is the last place in the US where a month is dedicated to celebrate the history of the CSA.

*Kavelin was first founded by Russian Europeans in the hopes of perserving their dying culture, and it has since become a home for many Alaskans hoping to do the same.

*Archer was founded primarily as a farming colony because of its relatively smooth surface and temperate climate, and was largely colonized by Midwesterners.

*Minerva is best known for Roosevelt City, and was founded by some of the last Rooseveltian Liberals.

*Hansen was first founded by Danish-Europeans that were seperated from a larger exploration fleet. Its rich deposites of Tungston and "Rare-Earth Elements" have made it a largely manufacturing colony.

*Hsiao was first founded by some of the last Chinese Socialists with the dream of eventually bringing back the PRC. Most Americans living there today are Midwestern Marxists, hoping to also influence the US as a whole by example.

*Torres was founded by a joint US-European-S. American mission, and is home to New Texas and Gadsten.

*Xia, one of China's most distant colonies, has been known universally as a difficult world to eak out a living, hence each colonists claim to great courage.

*Rina was founed by Maylasia in the 2050s, and was their second colony world. It is also home to the US States of New Samoa, and Marina

*Ariel's sole American colony was founded by a group of Lakhota-Souix explorers seeking a place to potentially rebuild their culture. Its loyalty to the US as a whole has always been in question much like Reth.

*Baril: First founded by a group of Arabian explorers seeking a place to expand Zaidi-Shia teachings, it is ironically also home to the US State of New Jefferson, named for the first American President to go to war with a Muslim country.

*Nehru is India's outer most colony, and there has been a great cultural mixing between the American and Indian colonists who populate it, due to the somewhat patchwork spread of territory.

The arm on Hsiao flag reminds me of the Berzerk clans logo from Urban Rivals.

Cool flags. I had similar thoughts about a future United Space of America having a very decentralized Federal government, although I never thought of having the planetary flags being variants of the US flag. Is it hard to make these kinds of flags because I was thinking of using Microsoft Paint to start solidifying my concepts of planetary flags in a story I'm making up.

I imagine real colonies would be like this where diverse ideological groups would found their own civilizations

Look for "Pivotal Moments," and think about how they could have gone the other way. Historical parallels also help as a guide for future history.

Your second Renaissance story is really interesting, and I'm going to keep looking out for it. I was wondering what plans you have for this story, if you're willing to share. Let me say too that Kimura is one of the most interesting flags I've ever seen, real or fictional. I also love Nehru.

I was reading your description and noticed that you had combined the information about Hsiao and Torres.

Thanks, but I'll be honest Kimura and Nehru are some of my least favorite flags that I've done. I'm still polishing the story on future.wikia, and right now I'm really just trying to make the scenario a little more practical.

-It says russian culture is dying. that caught my attention. Why did that happen?
-also, interesting you implied that france and germany, by the use of the term "franco-german" unified nice touch.
-overall, very good job. cant wait to see what you do with this setting.

Well, this is all part of my Second Renaissance TL, in which Europe is unified under a European Federal Union; which Russia joined after being economically devastated by a civil war that cut them off from Siberia thanks to the Ural Sea (if you recall my global warming map). As such Russia's culture became diluted with the influx of their new fellow Europeans.

Really good flags and interesting histories. I take it that America has come to dominate the majority of Earth, since though several worlds were colonized by Asians or European, they're under American control.

YNot1989 In reply to Nederbird [2010-09-09 22:09:37 +0000 UTC]

Nope, the US is one of several continental superpowers, only a few worlds have been exclusively colonized by one nation or another; where in most cases the US shares a planet with the nation that originally discovered it, that is why not all the names are anglicized.

Nederbird In reply to YNot1989 [2010-09-09 23:08:34 +0000 UTC]

Ah, makes sense. So the flags are just territories on the planets rather than entire celestial bodies, I understand it.

I recently resolved the naming and ultimately legal dilemma. You see the idea is that on each planet with at least one US State there is a Commonwealth, which is a level of government between the states and the federal government. This allows the Federal level to move more nimbly to manage the broader issues of the Commonwealths, while two planets that might have nothing in common can manage their individual issues independently.

Its just supposed to be a Danish surname, no connection to 90s schlock was intended.
