This has been building for a while, it was bound to break eventually. Sans’s insecurities here are all things that have either been not-so-subtly implied to him (like here , here , here , here , or here ) or outright said to his face , and he’s also still haunted by how he was used to try and get Papyrus to kill something and how his most recent attempt to protect him ended in total failure . It wears on you. Papyrus has known about his "condition" since they were babybones but had no idea how deep his feelings about it ran.

Papyrus has indeed had a scar on his neck since he had that neck brace . It may be hard to see at points but it’s there! He still has it in the future , even. And Sans did indeed tell Papyrus not to let Gaster get to him , haha. LOT OF BACKLINKS THIS ROUND
Sans is glowing a little bit of Papyrus's color there.

Come to think of it, the scar on his neck makes for a good reason why future Paps is always wearing scarves. So that people don't see it.

Zarla made an list of what the eye color do.
Green - Happiness/Contentment. As a negative feeling, green could be a variant color when they’re badly hurt, since green is generally associated with healing.
Pink - Surprise/Embarrassment, works for good surprised or bad surprised, either way.
White - Frustration/Worry (this hasn’t actually. shown up yet, but it may in the future). Positively I can see it as a kind of meditative calmness. A whited out socket usually indicates shock or zoning out.
Yellow - Stress/Fear, possibly some anger as well. As a positive feeling I can see it as a sort of “come at me bro” cockiness, haha.
Purple - Fear/Helplessness, possibly some light bleed into anger. Positively I can see it as a sort of plea for assistance, or a call to be brave.
Rapid Color Changing - danger danger will robinson skeleton is freaking out

The bonding between the two brothers and the struggle Sans has with the truth that he is not worthless is very applicable to everyone and shows that everyone has greater worth than they think they have. We just have to see through the eyes of Someone who Loves us.

Everyone knows how Sans' unique application of power makes all measures of strength meaningless. 1 ATK...per frame! With poison! And why should he stand in the middle of your attack animation when he could just dawdle over to the side and you'll just MISS
And Papyrus can be straight-up devious when he can make friends that way. "I THOUGHT UNDYNE WOULD BE UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF BEING THE HUMAN'S FRIEND. OH WELL." Hook, line, and sinker (an extra-effective metaphor when applied to a fish monster)!
