Causal she may be; Ami is far from being a lazy bear when it comes to doing her job as an engineer.
Instead, she's more of a hard worker with a positive outlook in her skills and capability as she uses her smarts and determination to get the job done.
Though aside from this, she doesn't talk as often as others do; mostly because her english language is still in a need of work, but she also believes in the term: "Actions speak louder than words". Sometimes this leads to her being a bit unpredictable at times since no one can really tell what she will do or how she will respond
to comments. Heck, she can even be rude against those that come at her the wrong way; a point to where she will growl, ignore or maybe even show off her inhuman strength to others and scare them off. Then again; she would also do this too when she's standing up against others due to her loyalty of her friends and family...or maybe she just likes to show off her muscles. (*shrugs*)

• History:
Since birth, Amelia had lived in Malie City for as long as she can remember.
There, she lived with her mother; Ju, her father; Déwei and 5 older brothers; Ping, Fuji, Hui, Jian and Li.

For the most parts in Ami's life, the household was something she felt proud to be a part of. Sure it had its ups and downs but it was something Ami was rather grateful of for
she had a great father who worked hard as a surgeon doctor at a children's hospital and did everything he could to provide for the family, she had fun (and annoying) brothers that she enjoyed playing with, but most of all, she had a mother that she looked up to and hopes that she could follow the same dream as her.

All of this took place a long time ago when Ami was just 6 years old; Ami and her mom were up late one night as Ju was busy working on an invention that could make transportation more easier and safe for citizens. Curious as she was, Ami wanted to know more about her mother's job and all the stuff she created in the past. Pleased by her curiosity; Ju decided to show Ami her interest in technology and machinery by teaching Ami how to create light with a potato. From there, she taught Ami some basics of machine parts, showed her how to repair an alarm clock and other types of tinkering.

By the time Ami reach the age of 16 years old, she got a good grasp of repairing some stuff like fixing a clock, radio, and even her father's car brakes. To this; Ami took pride in her small accomplishments and worked even harder in her education to learn more. However, as she reached her 3rd year in high school; the lifestyle within the household took a sharp turn as Ami's mother decided to leave Alola to pursue her career more. Sure at first, Ami was excited that her mom got to explore new places outside of Alola and was able to do more in her life...but after years of not seeing her mom, it got rather dull and difficult for Ami--even after she graduated from high school as her father prohibited Ami to further her education in engineering; stating that he won't pay her college funds unless she gives up on that dream. Because of this; Ami was unable to go to college and instead worked at the Recycling Plant in the city.

From then on up to the age of 28 years old, Ami's life was in a rather dull to bare; day after day she would collect the trash around the city and dispose of them while other times she would help her father around the clinic as a janitor. Though at times when she doesn't have to work, she would sneak to the library and read up some books on engineering, machinery, and other things; basically teaching herself for when she got the chance to change jobs and work as a ship engineer.

It wasn't until one day while she was reading one of her books that she came across a weird envelope in one of the pages.
Surely, she thought someone who previously used this had left it after returning the book, but she was shocked to see that the letter was under her name. It crept her out
at first for she didn't know who knew her name, but curiously she decided to open it and read the letter; discovering that it was an invitation to a mysterious island far away. Could this perhaps be a sign that Ami needed to change her boring life? Sure, she didn't want to leave her family behind but...maybe this was something she needed.

Debating about this for some time, Ami decided to take the risk of accepting the invite in which she consulted this with her family about her decision.
Long story short; her father didn't handle this new information well as he forbids her to leave as he feared that he would never get to see her again just like his wife.
Soon enough an argument began to flare up between the two and before the brothers could stop it, Déwei engaged Ami to decide between two choices;

"Choose wisely, Amelia--shall you follow my orders and burn that damned letter, I will forgive your foolishness and let you continue being part of this family.
But if you so as hell dare to walk out that door--you not only lose a right to return to my house but you will be dishonored from this family!"

"...Then it looks like we will only be strangers as of now."

With this stated, she left. Not bothering to pack her belongings as she knew they did not belong to her anymore, yet the only thing that she was able to take was the hard-earned money from her savings, her sketchbook full of her inventions and a necklace that was a gift from her family. Soon enough, Ami took the brass ship, sailing towards her new home.
