Description Odo is an ex-candidate for the GryphonArtistsUnited mascot contest. He's been reacquisitioned and renamed for the naturalist Odoardo Beccari, the first man to see a Vogelkop in its native habitat.

Bowerbirds create structures that are neither nest nor shelter, and the design of each bower is unique to the individual. The Vogelkop species creates the grandest bower: it is a concert hall for the bird's voice, a gallery, a work of art in itself, and a parlor for entertaining females. While other birds are judged for their plumage or their ability to provide, the male bowerbird dedicates himself to artistic achievement.

I love the story, concept, and the presentation. You really do remarkable work with your birds. The colouring here is so believable, and the gryff just plain makes sense!

Thanks. He wasn't chosen, but on the bright side I can keep the design for myself...if I ever have time to do more digital painting.

I saw that he didn't win... which is a shame, because there seems like there was a lot more thought put into it... I like that with your Garun, you at least know what the species are!

I do know the feeling about lack of time, too... I used to love doing digital sketches and now I just don't have the time :<

This one is so fun! The unique songbird and house cat combo is very neat! I think this is a very preatty gryph as well. Good job!

The cat portion is actually the Flat-headed cat, which is a wild feline about half the size of a house cat with a proportionally shorter tail

Oh, I see now. I'll have to look that up, it sounds neat. Thanks!

Oooh, a more realistic take on Garun, awesome! 8D And you used a bowerbird too, that's a really awesome choice for an artistic gryphon. Lovely colors and great design, good going!

All right! A bowerbird!
That's a great idea Ciameth, I love the attention you've given to his colours. <^v^>

I just really love avian sciences (it's part of what I'm studying in college) and, of course, David Attenborough nature documentaries! I think the bowerbird first captured my imagination when I was sick one weekend, watching tv, and BBC happened to be showing (to my delight) a marathon of The Life of Birds segments and the two Attenboroughs in Paradise that focus on birds of paradise and bowerbirds!

I think that's a really creative idea with the bower bird. And it's not just because it's different, but because there's a story behind it, and it makes much sense.
I love the colours here, too. THe orange and green and stuff. Nice realistic headshot, too.

Thank you. I was hesitant to incorporate the Flat-headed cat since it's so uncommon that I was worried it would be perceived as an attempt to make an already unconventional gryphon more "different." But the only felines native to the bowerbird's range are domestic cats, which wreak havoc on the ecosystem. The flat-headed cat was the closest indigenous feline AND it is small enough to suit a song-gryphon front half.
