Description (2009) 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", paper mache, broken toothpicks, tempera paint, metallic paints and glazes, ribbon

My second paper mache mask. This one has the markings of Lucius Malfoy's mask from Order of the Phoenix.

I was deeply disappointed with the cheap molded plastic knock-offs that are on the market, especially The Noble Collection out-tackied themselves with their oversized, plastic hockey-helmet version after having produced a very decent wand and cane replica after COS.

NECA eventually decided to withdraw their metal prop copy, that looked half-way decent in their promo-shots so I decided on my own version in paper mache. It fits like a glove!

Thank you! Thank god for crafts. We can make what we don't see out there.

We can! and often to a better standard, because we craft things diligently and with love, rather than mass producing them on a production line.
I thought you might be interested to see this - I've resisted posting it until now, as it's not a mask I designed myself - but seeing your fantastic Death Eater masks inspired me to put it up. [link]

Thanks so much! I really was just so disappointed with the commercially available props this time - molded plastic all around, like stupid hockey masks...

They are so beautiful... you have a great talent... in Carvanal of Venice you could sell a lot of these!

Thank you, and yes, the idea to have those strange openings is rather spooky. I guess it makes sense, so spells can be intoned more effectively, but still...

It is gorgeous and absolutely real.
Unfortunately some of official HP products i've bougth were not much than a rubber wand in reality though they looked rather impressive on the promo page

Ah, it has the Lucius markings (not that I thought I knew them by sight). That explains why this mask incarnation seemed even more Death-Eater-ish than the previous one.

Now I must quietly sulk because he wasn't in Half-Blood Prince, but languishing in Azkaban. Yeah, he deserved it for being villainous and all, but man, he's pretty. Draco's all right (ok, ok, more than all right) but not a man yet, and no substitute.

Ellygator In reply to Bright-Circle [2009-08-23 13:23:37 +0000 UTC]

I know. They gave us a glimpse of him on the cover of the Daily Prophet, but it wasn't near enough. I hope they put all his book scenes into DH, though. Should make for lots of Lucius!

Bright-Circle In reply to Ellygator [2009-08-23 14:48:03 +0000 UTC]

Something about the long pale hair. Oh and the Jason Isaacs-ness. Ahem. I never have been quite the same about him since seeing him as Captain Hook (shirtless in his opening scene, no less).

Ellygator In reply to Bright-Circle [2009-08-23 22:17:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh, don't remind me. "Why did you wake me, Smee?!" I nearly melted into my cinema chair...

I kinda look forward to tormented, disheveled, humiliated, post-Azkaban Lucius in the next movie in a really morbid way... Does that make me a bad person...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bright-Circle In reply to Ellygator [2009-08-23 23:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Not having read DH, I can't really give a properly educated opinion, but my ignorant opinion is this: NO FRAKKIN' WAY does that make you a bad person. Because I can completely get behind digging something like that. It's like liking demoted, disheveled, humiliated, dirty ex-Commodore Norrington in the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, crossed with how hot James Bond was in Casino Royale when the villain was knocking him in the nuts. Ahem.

Ellygator In reply to Bright-Circle [2009-08-25 04:33:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and I can promise you it is AS BAD AS THAT for Lucius, so you'll have disheveled, humiliated AND kicked in the balls (well, Lord Voldemort at one point decides Lucius does not need a wand any more - talk about wizarding emasculation)!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bright-Circle In reply to Ellygator [2009-08-25 15:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Wandless wizard. Humiliating/emasculating, indeed. Particularly for Lucius, I suspect. Not, perhaps, quite as hot as being tied naked to a chair like Bond was (*cough*, ok, there IS something wrong with me) but still.

Thank you! I finally have the Lucius mask I want. I guess it comes down to my motto: you must do everything yourself (if it's supposed to be the way you want it, dammit!) LOL!

horai [2009-08-21 08:31:27 +0000 UTC]

I think the finish on this version is even better. Very metallic and quite disturbing.

Ellygator In reply to horai [2009-08-22 04:22:06 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! They have this black goop that you can paint on and then rub off. It really makes the metal look corroded and distressed. It's great for bringing depth to these things and not make them look just painted.

I love the battered metal look. And there's something in the shape of this face (particularly the "eyes") that makes me think of a quite threatening African tribal mask.
Nice job! :-D

This is great. I really don't like fangirling the Death Eaters, out of principle, but their costumes in the movies are awesome! I love your mask, and the fact you can make your own individual one and it's still "right". No clone armies!
