(2009) 9"x12" pencil, ink, watercolor, silver leaf, photographed and framed in PhotoshopEven though the star stone for Scorpio is sometimes designated as opal, I decided on something that would have more of a color impact and went with the dramatic black of onyx. The idea of opal still lingers in the shades of green of the page and in the waves that surround the central image. In the end I was surprised how "Slytherin" my Scorpio looked, but for the fixed water sign that's not too bad an association.
Personally I consider Scorpio my shadow sign: while the sun hung out in Leo for my birth chart, most other planets lurked around in Scorpio, including the moon.

I don't know how I missed this in your gallery.
It is always good to meet a Leo that has a good grasp of this sign. As a scorpion myself, I have found Leo to be one of the hardest signs to understand and be understood by.
In a way these strong signs are equal and opposite mirrors of one another. <3 I can see why it would feel especially like a shadow sign.
(I have the same situation with Aquarius; I have both a Scorpio stellium and an Aquarius stellium that really makes me feel like a closet Aqua much of the time.)

Very cool, Elly! Thanks to the colors you chose, the layering of the background text and the scroll work makes an especially lovely and delicate pattern. Is the shading on the scroll work (that is, lighter at the top than the bottom) the natural effect of the silver leaf, or did you shade it? Either way, the graduation is a nice touch

Thanks so much! Actually the silver leaf really does change by itself. My photography is not very sophisticated and usually I lay the drawing flat on our patio and bend over to photograph, so the top where the silver reflects the sky is lighter than the lower half, where by body and the camera block out some of the light. I am glad, though that this accident works to advantage rather than detriment!

This is very good, I love the shade of jade green you have used here, it contrasts very nicely with the black. Also loving the japan-esque waves working with the art neuveau frame.

Thanks so much! And I guess Scorpio has got a lot of bad reputation, because the 8th house (which it represents) stands for death and conflict. That has rubbed off on the star sign a little, and some folks simply feel intimidated by Scorpios. Add to that that many people born under that sign are credited with having great intuition and insight into others and tend to keep secrets rather than always putting all their cards on the table and you have some folks who will just shut up when they find out what your sun-sign is. Personally I think it's some good traits we could all use more of!
