ironically the fluid and organic is easier to produce as a byproduct of modeling technique than the clean mechanical.

Hellow sir! How are you?
I am finally getting used to 3D Max, thanks to your support and help with the links, I could find many helpfull begginer tutorials and even advanced ones ( tought I can only try one or two steps from those, yet ^_^ ), but little by little, I am evolving...
What I wanted to ask you is... HOW, what, where can I click to add that "blue energy" effect inside the engine, like you did there? It looks like plasma, I donΒ΄t know... could you explain to me where can I click there, to add such effect? You created an sphere and added the texture afterwards? Or can we do it just "out of the blue", throwing the blue energy in the space?
Thanks for the attention!

i cheated rather than actually doing an effect.
its simple and procedural but there are more than neccesary steps to it, and with time you will likely find a better method than what i used here....anyway the runthrough: create a sphere, add a noise modifier, tweak the params to what you want. then go to your material editor, create a translucent material, apply a noise texture to the opacity channel and then clone it to the self illumination channnel. then choose some nice and bright colors, copy one of these colors to the self illumination color. putting drastically different colors on the specular can have nifty effects.
Note: the material for the blue on the inside of the plates is identical to the "plasmy" material inside the sphere, only difference is that the one inside the plates is a "anisotropic" material instead of a translucent.

Hey how!
Teacher, ohoho!^^
I am working hard, hup!
Yesterday I could create an apple, and today I made some kind of, ahn, "useless" engine device, wahahah! But it is good to practice the steps I am learning, isnΒ΄t it?
Take a look here: [link]
Ooooh, so that is how you do a plasma effect, hmmm! I feel great now, because I could read your explanation and for the first time, I wouldnΒ΄t go like "Ahn, eh? Where?", I knew exactly were you were referring of!
I hope someday I can make great vehicles like you and your friends did ( like those Rainfall post, yesterday ) and work togheter as well.
Until later, my friend!

im guessing you used boolean cuts to make the gear shape? be careful with boolean, it can get very very buggy....it creates a massive amount of unessecary faces and typically results in massive optomization problems. some things boolean is indeed the best method, others...its nothing but trouble and extra work.
and im glad you

HOLY! this is the first design Ive seen that youve truely without question done something superior... good job... I dont think changing its color would help it... the blue and placid white are actually good for it... at least in my opinion...

hehe well htank you!!! although in spite of all its complex looks it was still one of the easyest to build

all it really is is 10 objects cloned, scaled, moved and rotated to look like new parts. thing only took about 5 hours.

Damn, drooled on the keyboard. Very nice. This one seems to be so different from the others, yet it has a beauty all its own. Superb model, dude! +fav

i felt it was time i try something a bit different. seems to be getting a great response! which has left me very pleased. thank you oh so much! i was very skeptical on this one

what do you use to create your ships? they all have VERY good modelling details, although i think ur textures need some work. but the modelling.. blows my mind...

i use 3d studio max. scince april i have been putting all of my effort into modelling. ive jsut started learning how to UV my models so before long i will be adding texture. thanbks alot for the compliment by the way!!!

no problems, your an awesome modeller.. i personally cant stand the 3ds interface, but i have to use it for school.

its what i know the best...but ill be the first to say its got its flaws.
its quite adeptly built for game models tho.

check their site out if you havent allready [link]
its a long way from full release, and the various modders will probably have to wait a while for the next prerelease version, but there are big things happening

this was an easy copy past scale and ffd job, nothing really complicated. in reality there are less than 10 types of parts, theyve jsut been cloned and scaled
