GUIRON MY MAN I FINALLY GOT TO DRAW HIM

Already drew the first 4 Kaiju from Rebirth so now I finally get to draw my fav, Guiron! I already mentioned this before but Guiron was already my favorite Showa Gamera Kaiju, so when I saw him go absolutely ballistic in Rebirth I was so so happy! He absolutely stole the show and I loved that!

Guiron's new design is honestly just so stunning. I love how now the knife is actually a helmet connected to his flesh. His split jaw is definitely one of my favorite parts of the new design, definitely a really cool addition. I really liked how now instead of being on his head, his shurikens are on his spine and he has to power up to fire them. I like how they made him skin look metallic, really putting an emphasis on how he's a literal blade. Also liked how he could stretch so much, leading to him being really gymnastic and jumping up in the air. I absolutely loved Guiron's new design and his performance was honestly the best out of all of the monsters that Gamera fought during Rebirth. I am genuinely so so happy with how Guiron was handled. At first I thought he may not make it into the series, but when he was announced I was literally so happy and I was even happier when I finally got to see him in action. I love how they referenced Gamera vs Guiron by having one of Guiron's shurkins lend near one of Gamera's eyes, as well as Revenge of Iris by having Guiron cut off Gamera's right arm (like how in ROI he lost it after using the vanishing fist to kill Iris) and how Guiron also impaled Gamera (similar to how Iris impaled Gamera in ROI. Also Guiron's death really took me by surprise. Quite ironic seeing the one Kaiju who's known for slicing others be the one who gets killed by getting sliced in half by Gamera's spinning jets. Probably one of the best death scenes in the series imo!

Also I like how Guiron is even more similar to Gigan now. People always compared Showa Guiron and Showa Gigan, since the two of them have a lot in common, both being alien monsters with blades as their body parts, being extremely violent towards Gamera and Godzilla respectively, and both having green as their main color. Reiwa Guiron ended up looking really similar to Millennium Gigan, with both of them having navy blue as their main color, both being more "metallic" (Guiron having metal-like skin and Gigan being completely covered in cybernetic armor) and both of them having red eyes. Honestly I always liked to think that Gigan and Guiron would get along and be buddies, and Rebirth made me like that idea even more now given how similar Reiwa Guiron looks to Millennium Gigan. I really should draw them togetehr at some point (same with their Showa versions too!)

Guiron was a bit harder to figure out at first since he has the most detailed design out of every Rebirth Kaiju, especially in his head area. I knew I couldn't fit his whole head within the canvas unless I shrinked him by a lot, so I decided to not fit his entire head in but instead mostly focus on his split jaw. It was a bit tricky at first, but thankfully there were some clear shots with his jaw being split as well as the Bandai fihure having the jaws split, so I used those as reference. Working with navy blue was really fun. It's one of my favorite colors to work with when drawing, especially for lighting, it gives me an oddly nostalgic feeling for some reason. Really proud of how I drew Guiron! I was really excited to draw him since as I said he is my fav and I really wanted to figure out how to draw him. He may be detailed but I have a soft spot for detailed designs and Guiron is no exception!

Really really proud of this one! I'm getting closer to being done with the Rebirth headshots which so far were extremely fun to do! Very happy with how Guiron ended up looking like! 💙💙💙
