I legit thought I wouldn't be able to get this one done in time since I was a bit busier today but looks like that wasn't the case lol

Today's Rebirth fanart is of Zigra! At first I thought I might have a harder time drawing him, but in actuality he has the simplest and easiest design out of everyone so far lol (at least for his head). I was pleasantly surprised by Zigra's performance in Rebirth tbh. Back when I watched the Showa films I had a more neutral opinion on Zigra since he didn't have too much of a strong impact on me. Gamera vs Zigra was the most forgettable out of the Showa Gamera movies imo, not to say it was bad but I just can't remember it all that well besides the plot about pollution or something along those lines. Showa Zigra always looked really goofy to me since he just looked like a water toy, not to mention that the drastic change between his land and water forms made him feel even sillier. With that said, Reiwa Zigra was definitely a huge improvement. I love how they took inspiration from sharks, dolphins and stingrays, making him look like an actual plausible aquatic animal. I loved how they put an emphasis on his echolocation am how they made it smell-based. Really liked his powers, especially his beams and the fact that he can extend his tail and make it extremely long. Also love how they decided to keep him amphibious by making him able to walk on land just fine. It did take me by surprise since I thought they'd just keep him underwater the whole time cuz all of his scenes from trailers and promotional images were in water, but I'm glad they decided to make him able to walk on land just like how he did in Showa, making it look natural by having him take a more bird like posture. I really liked Reiwa Zigra, really made him stand out more to me since as I said, he was rather forgettable in Showa. Also what makes me even happier is that him and Viras looked a lot more different now. For some reason I always keep getting the two of them mixed up, I know that they are still rather different but they're both based off of aquatic creatures and in Showa they had the exact samd color-scheme, with grey skin and red eyes. But thankfully in Rebirth Zigra is a light blue color while Viras is gold, so I can distinguish them better (I would get deeper into Viras too, but it's not his turn just yet). Overall Rebirth really redeemed Zigra for me, not that I didn't like him, but it did make me like him more

Again as mentioned he was the easiest to draw so far so this drawing ended up taking me the least amount of time compared to the others I've done so far. That's probably a good thing, given how the remaining Kaiju have more detailed designs, Guiron especially (gonna have a field day trying to figure out how to fit his head in the canvas). I don't have much to say about this drawing in particular tbh. I did like using the sky-blue for lighting tho. Blue is generally really fun to use for lights and I really should do it more. Drawing blue lightning is also fun, since funnily enough most real-life lightnings Happen to actually be either purple or blue, rather than yellow how most people may think

Again, quite proud of this one just like my other Rebirth artworks so far. I'm having a lot of fun drawing these and honestly I'm glad I managed to get them all done in time, especially since I just started school. Really eager to fo the rest. Honestly I'd be down to draw a whole full-body underwater scene with Zigra at some point. He's really fun to draw 🩵🩵🩵
