Description This is one of the first photos I took using filters - I'd completely forgotten to reset the ISO and exposure compensation on my Nikon but this is one of those happy accidents that post-processing is (almost) able to cure...

I'm fairly pleased with how this one turned out but all constructive comments and critiques will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that bank of cloud is the bane of my life. It never seems to move or burn off... every time I've been to the beach in the last 2 months it's been there! But yeah, how you see it is pretty much how it was. Thanks for asking

it's so cool when it's like that We sometimes have amazing golden sunsets on occasion, I really like them because the color is so true in the pictures

I love it matt, it's really soft and warm, I'm sure you had a hard time rescueing (sp? excuse my bad english) this one, but it was worth it.
Well done.

You are so perceptive!

I had a nightmare trying to put this one right and it's never going to be one of my favourites. If that cloud bank hadn't been there I would've waited about an hour for the tide to come up further. I think that would have made a much nicer photo because the colour of the sand takes away the splendour of the rocks. The rock formations on this beach are amazing but sadly the weather has never been ideal. *sigh* One day!

Thanks for your lovely comment - I'm always grateful for your support

That's probably because I'd left it on ISO800 without realising - or maybe I should've stacked another ND grad on top of the one I'd already fitted... so many possibilities

the pink tones are nice but there is a fundamental mistake in this pic!

don't worry it isn't that much of a mistake, but needs to be corrected!

I haven't got my head around Photoshop yet - I've got a ton of tuition DVDs to go through. I find Paint Shop Pro easier to use but I only learned the most basic basics.

i love the color tones and wet sand is captured so white in the front... it is a little blurry in full view but still beautiful!

matt-h-mitchell In reply to Richie-x-pressions [2009-01-08 22:33:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Emily, that's a good point.

I changed the resolution to 600 pixels wide - does that improve the blurriness any?

Deb-e-ann [2009-01-08 21:41:30 +0000 UTC]

Well I like it as it is but there are a few things you could try - contrast could sharpen the look of the rocks or go the other way and put a soft filter like glamour on it. I think if you mess too much you lose the photo all together

Haha, thanks Ro. I think this would've been a nicer scene if the tide had been up further and just touching on these rocks in the foreground. That's on my to-shoot list
