If you thought the Devastator was impractical well sit down while I tell you about the Devastation Class War Mech. In all seriousness though, when news of this thing got out, there dam near was a military coup by the more competent leaders, both military and civilian alike. The story behind this is quite interesting. It started out as a pork project, something for Administrators to accumulate power and wealth. As such progress towards actually getting this thing working was at best half-assed. That was until the other factions started to field super heavies and landships. At first the Administration wasn't concerned about these experimental devices, expecting them to go nowhere. However, these vehicles did indeed go somewhere. Upon realizing that these experiments were resulting in actual combat vehicles, the Administration had a "OOH SHIT" moment and rushed the closest equivalent they had into battle. The Closest equivalent being the Devastation class War Mech.

The Devastation Class War Mech is built as a landship. It is designed to battle and beat anything on the ground. Its right arm carries dual Gatling cannons to deal with infantry and lightly armored vehicles. Its left arm carries a railgun, to counter proper armored units, and is its main defense against other landships. Now this being said it is weak against air units. The engineers attempted to counter this by installing twin AA cannons on top the mech, although this being a last minute addition it is of limited success. In addition the Devastation is not as heavily armored as one might think. Being a bipedal design, plus the universal problem of such vehicles sinking into the ground, it is only has medium armor for a vehicle of its size. Combine all these and what you get is alot of firepower but it requires escorts and support units. To top it all off it is quite slow.

As mentioned earlier the Mech was met with widespread criticism. Generals tried everything to prevent this thing from being rolled out to the armies. However, the assembly was and still is panicked that they would be left behind in the arms race. Despite standing order, Generals refuse to deploy it in most situations, usually only direct orders from Administrators, or the appearance of an enemy landship, will get one of these things onto the battlefield. Devastation pilots are typically younger recruits, mostly because only younger soldiers (read teenagers) are eager to pilot the thing. These recruits are subject to constant ridicule from their fellow soldiers, due to their war machine. Despite the propaganda efforts, the public reveal of the Mech actually sparked protests from the population, outraged that the resources that they desperately needed were being wasted on such absurd things. The protests were quickly crushed, but the fact that there were any protests at all greatly disturbed the Administration council.
