Description The Butcher, a cult monster from Silent Hill: Origins. The half of his face is hidden by a metallic mask and he uses a big meat knife to attack. And if you want to know what the monster really symbolizes, just play the game.

Thank you! Yes, he is underrated, like Silent Hill: Origins I have to say. It was a pretty good game, even if it wasn't developed by Konami Japan.

Very nice, but from what I was told, The Butcher is a rip-off of Pyramid Head.
And I agree with you, they are ruining Silent Hill by creating Silent Hill Homecoming (though Scarlet wasn't half bad). But from what I hear about the movie, that brought itdown to its lowest level. Heck, I could come up with better monsters than the movie or SH5, I just created one monster by listening to the Silent Hill 3 song: Innocent Moon. Here's the link to the song; if you dont know why I based the monster on the song, please tell me. [link]

I just want to say that its not a rip-off if its the same people who created the pyramid head in the first place including the company. Its more or less simply based off of pyramid head or a different kind.

Hi, thanks for the comment.
The Butcher is a sort of rip-off, that's sure. But I was pleased when I played the game to see that they make him a bit more meaningful than a simple copy like the one from the movie.
Pyramid Head is the culpability of James who wants to punish James from his crime. The Butcher is the conscience of Travis who tries to make him realize of his double personality. From what I understand, Travis is a schyzophrenic killer who kills women that he loves, and Butcher is here to help him by killing other monsters.

Pyramid Head of SH5 has no f**king meaning. He's just here to kick some ass.

Nice choice for the song, one of my favourite song from SH3 OST. It's really great to draw with musics, it feeds so much the creativity

If James killed his wife and Pyramid Head punishes him for it, and the Butcher is the one who punishes Travis. Could they be... Related in any way? (Not saying that they are, just hypothesising)

The Silent Hill reputation dropped after 5, but I have to give credit. Alex is ONE OF the only characters that holds the most normal walk. Last time I checked; James' walk looks like he's arm-hooked to someone. Am I right?

ThoRCX In reply to Nuclearbones [2010-07-21 16:50:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, these 2 entities are something that they both imagined in our head, so they don't exist and they are not really related. But James invented PH and the design comes from the traditional executioner costume of Silent Hill cult (as he saw in the Silent Hill Historical Society when he comes in the town with Mary). Travis invented the Butcher because he saw the room in the Riverside Motel where a mad guy where drawing a thousand of drawings of that monster. So they have a sort of link in the origins.

The animations were not bad in Homecoming, that's true. Every other Silent Hill characters have got terrible animations (except in the cutscenes because they use motion capture).

Silent Hill origins was a pretty good game, although I do wish there was a little more plot involved. (although that has always seemed to be a little bit of an issue with the silent hill series Was it me, or was the game really short?) I forgot, what does the butcher symbolize?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThoRCX In reply to regala [2009-07-26 03:52:23 +0000 UTC]

SHO is a bit short, but I think it's because of the size of a PSP's UMD. MGS: Portable Ops did the same thing, they use several times the same levels, and put cinematics made by drawings.

The butcher symbolizes the want of Travis to kill people. Each time he wants to kill someone, his culpability makes him see that monster to warn Travis. For example, after the meeting with Lisa, Travis saw Butcher killing a nurse (with cutting his puvis with the big kitchen knife).

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed by the Butcher in the game too. We don't see him much (that's not something bad though), but he is too weak, we can beat him too easily I think.
When we meet Pyramid Head in SH2, we know that he's invincible, and that emphasizes the fear.

YellowFlash001 In reply to ThoRCX [2008-09-09 20:04:25 +0000 UTC]

yeah...but maybe the butcher being so weak is something symbolic? i mean the butcher is supposed to be travis right?so maybe travis's innermost desire is to be feared/respected....or it could be just his disire to beat the living crud out of everything :3;
lol my friend said she was killed by the butcher cuz she was bein stupid, and he has a grappling move! :0 she was killed by it tho cuz she missed the button tapping...lol ill have to ask her how she was killed by him :3

It is a part of Travis, I personally think that Travis made Butcher in his mind to help himself understand that he is a schizophrenic killer (that's why the monster is killing other monsters).
And I think that the battle with him symbolizes the inner fight of Travis, the fight with his own mind. If he can accept the truth, it is the good ending, and if not, the bad (and then Travis becomes himself the Butcher).
So maybe if the monster is so weak, maybe because Travis doesn't really want to accept the reality? ^^ (He says to Alessa "Why don't you let me forget?", it shows that he prefers to live in a world of lies)

And don't laught at your friend, I was killed once by Butcher too... He took me by the neck and cutted my stomach

YellowFlash001 In reply to ThoRCX [2008-09-11 22:33:51 +0000 UTC]

probably, and somewhere i read that each time you do a boss fight that results in getting a flauros peice the monster is supposed to represent that peice...so the straightjacket is supposed to be travis's future?lol i guess it kinda makes sense...just a little
i know she told me how she died apparently there was a glitch or she got stuck (or maybe her button got stuck?) and she couldnt move away from him in time but then she killed him the second time around

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThoRCX In reply to YellowFlash001 [2008-09-23 13:40:06 +0000 UTC]

In the beginning in the hospital, we can see a note written by Dahlia which says the pieces of the Flauros was kept in security. And I think they were protected by the cult member. So, all the bosses of the games must be cult members in reality (that's why Alessa kicks the Caliban's corpse). Well, that's a possibility ^^
And if we don't get a Flauros piece after killing the Butcher, it's a proof that Butcher doesn't exist, it's a inner fight of Travis himself

that makes sense and whos tony?from the theatre that flashback on the stage about tony getting a nosebleed lol

ThoRCX In reply to YellowFlash001 [2008-09-25 20:25:58 +0000 UTC]

One of the actor who played in the Artaud Theater for "The Tempest". Alessa was looking at the repetition and she was scared of the Caliban, so she did a revenge with giving Tony a nosebleed.
After that, I think he's gone a bit crazy, we can see a note in the motel which says Tony became the "butcher".

No, he has nothing to link with Pyramid Head. It's a monster built in the head of Travis.

The real Butcher has a particular mask, and it doesn't really look like Pyramid Head either.

Not at all. Team Silent developed SH2 and thus their artists designed Pyramid Head. SH Origins was developed by Climax, and the Butcher barely resembles Pyramid Head aside from the Humanoid appearance.

TheM-Man In reply to Naroon-X [2008-05-27 19:59:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but the SH team has gone the way of FF. Too bad, they should've stopped with Silent Hill 2, that was the height of their achievement. Ever.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Naroon-X In reply to TheM-Man [2008-05-27 22:31:41 +0000 UTC]

Why stop with SH2? It had nothing to do with SH1 besides it being set in the same town. They didn't come close to being like Final Fantasy; they have so many games and spin-offs from FF it's insane. It's like they just take a dump and call it a new FF game. XD

TheM-Man In reply to Naroon-X [2008-05-28 08:19:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes. But just like FF SH is losing it's creativity.
